Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 βsecretβ spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

Smell: Strong vanilla mixed with caramel and brown sugar, green grass, black pepper, candy liquor, some slight coffee notes, slight ripe bananas. Overall decent, interesting but you can tell that it is not a "genuine" rum smell in a way βit is somewhat artificial even if they tried to balance it well (it worked to some extend).
Taste: Medium sweet brown sugar, caramel and vanilla stand out and dominate, there are some other spices β black pepper definitely and some dark tea notes. Some harshness appears in the aftertaste (even burn) from the alcohol. Could be a good mixer with cola and it is doable as a sipper at most.
For around 22β¬ - discounted in the supermarket it is def worth a try - 5.5.

Deze rum is totaal niet te vergelijken met andere rumsoorten. Ik vind hem waterig met een smaakje, weinig afdronk. Voor mij een no go, misschien voor anderen wel. Wellicht dat het een goed is om mee te mixen?

As much hype as Kraken gets, as far as Spiced Rums go, it's simply one dimensional and boring. The spices seem flat and the the overall flavour of the rum is simplistic. There are far better spiced rums on the market at the same price point which rank far higher in my opinion.

Has notes of spices and sweetness, all of which is overpowered by its harshness. You're better off buying Captain Morgan Black Spiced.

Best taste with ice cubes helps that chocolate flavor
Something different for a cochtail.

Kraken is a fairly polite sipper for me. The sweet vanilla and caramel taste is pretty much what I look for when I want to sip some rum. I do like a bit more attitude from my rums usually though. There isn't a harsh bite on the finish at all. I found it to be a very polite and smooth rum for sipping. There isn't a lot of depth to the flavor but a dash of water helps to bring out what there is. No bold spices to speak of. It's pretty smooth honestly. Not much burn at all. There are rums I like better, but I do like Kraken quite a bit.
