This bottling of Navy Island comes from Jamaica from the Hampden Distillery. The rum has been given a finish in Pedro Ximenez casks and was released as a limited edition in 2022. This bottling was bottled at drinking strength with 46.7% alcohol without additives.
Blind tasting:
In the nose it was quickly clear that it is a Jamaica rum. The typical overly ripe fruit with this ester part was there. But the sherry finish made me feel insecure. In addition, a lot of barrel influence with nut, toasted wood and seasoning and caramelized apricot. On the palate, the picture continues. Tropical fruit with a lot of barrel influence. Roasted flavors, leather, a little pepper and burnt sugar. The finish is a little spicier and slightly bitter.
A solid rum that suits the low ABV well. The finish is clearly noticeable. Personally i have enough of the combination of Hampden and sherry cask at the moment. If you like it, you can get a good rum here for little money.

Blind Verkostung:
In der Nase war schnell klar das es ein Jamaika Rum ist. Die typische überrei Frucht mit diesem Ester Anteil war da. Das Sherry Finish hat mich aber doch verunsichert. Dazu viel Fasseinfluss mit Nuss, getoastetem Holz und Würze und karamellisierter Aprikose. Am Gaumen setzt sich das Bild fort. Tropische Frucht mit viel Fasseinfluss. Röst Aromen, Leder, etwas Pfeffer und gebrannter Zucker. Der Abgang wird etwas würziger und leicht bitter.
Ein solider Rum dem die etwas niedrige ABV gut steht. Das Finish ist deutlich merkbar und so langsam reicht mir die Kombination Hampden und Sherry Fass. Wer es mag bekommt hier für wenig Geld einen guten Rum.
