Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

A spicy nose that does not overpower yet lingers to add to the sipping. Spice carries through increasing the overall depth of taste as you get past that first burn. Flavor grew in both cola and citrus mixers for a wonderful treat. Not my favorite sipper but different enough to keep a bottle around for a change or special cocktail.

I’ve been waiting this for a long, but in the end I was kind of disappointed.
Very nice bottle and colour.
Rich balanced flavour, a dry rum, but somehow sweet and sour.
Vanilla notes and a hint of oak. There is also something like an “old walnut”.
It has a solera “boost” but in the end lacks somehow in the body. Aftertaste somehow ok but not great.

I recommend to try it a bar before buying a bottle. For me is one of the few that in the end I prefer it with ice or gb rather than sipping. Let it breath and try it in different ways. Interesting but its dryness is not my cup of rum.

I must say i really don't understand why this rum is rated below 8. It is really an excellent rum and great value for incredibly reasonable price. First sip, instant satisfaction! Great flavor, some hints of sweetness (molasses, caramel) and a bit of oak. I really enjoyed it.

Light nose, slight spice taste but smooth going down with a slight spice after taste

A really nice, rich and solid rum. Great dark color, faint but pleasant nose. Rich almond, caramel mouth at first sip, balanced and not overly sweet.
Not my favorite, but no objections at all.

A pleasant rum, great colour and quite sweet initially for a rum purportedly without added sugar. A long taste lingers, good but unlikely to purchase again.

This was the start of my experience of becoming a rum connoisseur and my goal of experiencing at least 200 different rums! This is always the first rum that new club members are started out with and I sampled it on July 13, 2021. I smelled vanilla and pepper and tasted strong pepper at the end. I would label this fairly mellow. I had tasted rum before but never concentrated on the nose and specific elements on my palate. To me, this rum was just average.

Veľmi príjemný rum pre ľudí čo prechádzajú od sladkých rumov k nedosladzovanym. Jemná chuť, nenútene ovocie, čokoláda,vanilka a výrazný karamel. Zaujímavé,že časť zrenia prebieha v sudoch z roku 1796.

I've been waiting for a taste of Santa Teresa 1796 for while. After the first sip, I was hooked. A very nice taste and then a little burn in the end. I usually like my rum with a little more sweetnes. But this as an Avec worked out just fine.

I was first introduced to Santa Teresa 1796 ten years ago in Caracas by locals as the best Venezuelan rum. As these were the last days in Venezuela during my 3 week trip I had already learned they have some good rums.
It took years until it became available in Europe and even now in mostly Heinemann Airport Tax Free Shops.
Santa Teresa 1796 ticks all my boxes - its rich but dry, very well balanced and elegant rum.
I have converted many cognac connoisseurs to rum lovers with a little help of Santa Teresa 1796

My journey has mainly been on more expensive rums. For the price point it is stellar. Probably a 9 compared to others at this price but an 8 to me in relation to my 9 rated rums. Simply said: smooth butterscotch, caramel, with excellent end. Good for a sip or a mix.
