Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I love Zacapa 23 - rounded, well-balanced, great for sipping. I love their idea of developing a special Riedel glass for sipping their rum. It's teally world-class marketing and treating their consumers highly. Bravo!
I bought this rum duty free about 8 years ago and has been my favourite since. I have come to the conclusion that if you are going to drink rum the best rums are the ones you can drink on the rocks.
This rum has subtle spice and smoky flavours and should only be drunk with ice.
One of the best rum I tasted. Not a real 23 yo rum but I like the taste.
Great color flavor is exceptional from sherry cask to being aged at altitude. Worth the price.
Another of my top 5 or 6. Smokey sweet flavorful.
Perfect sipper , anytime, anywhere
Un des meilleurs de ma collection.
One of the best of my collection
Love it neat. But that isn't an option to choose below...
Very smooth and sweet full of toffee flavors
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I bought two mini-bottles (50 ml) to try this. After tasting several times before rating, here's my take: smooth and balanced with a classic rum taste and no odd or overpowering flavors. I tried this neat, neat with a little water and on ice and had no complaint. It's pricy and definitely a special occasion rum. Still weighing my price to quality rating but it's no bargain and I wouldn't use it as a mixer.
