Today's the day and worth the wait. I enjoyed this in its entirety. Smells great, tastes great, back notes are not pushed aside with harsh chemical type burns. just mellow and gentle sweetness from start to finish. WOW. One of the top rums on my rankings!
Ron Cartavio XO
Duft: vanilje, sødme
Smag: vanilje på fuld hammer, karamel, dette er bare en super god Rom.
Point: 9,5
Very nice. Like dessert in a glass. Sweet but not too sweet. Flavours of caramel, raisins, brown sugar, baking spices. Long enjoyable finish with a touch of wood.
The Bottle is a great piece of glass, the Rum doe snot live up to the bottle.
However it is a good rum just not great.
Tasted at Ruins, San Antonio November 6 2023.
Appearance: dark amber
Aroma: caramel, coconut, praline
Flavor: tropical goodness. Citrus, praline flavors. Reminds me of the orange caramels from brachs.
This is a smooth rum, do not mix this - it would ruin the perfection
9 stars
This is exactly my "blood type" - in short, dry rum with natural sweetness and refined taste but let's take this step by step.
Ron Cartavio XO is a blend of rums matured for 10-30 years (with 18 years being the average) in American, Slovenian, and French oak casks, which previously contained sherry and bourbon whiskey.
The color is quite dark for a rum without additives.
The aroma of this rum straight-up reminded me of Cubaney 18. It is smooth and refined. There is tons of vanilla and caramel, as well as some citruses and it is quite sweet. For a further comparison with Cubaney, I think that one is slightly better in this regard and less sweet. With that said, the aroma is well-rounded and full of sweetness.
Now the most important part - the taste. Well, it is amazing. It is a dry rum in nature but still provides some natural sweetness. The flavors are refined, with very little alcohol burn. There is vanilla, caramel, and dark chocolate (really nice). It has an interesting subtle sweetness to it.
Overall, this is 9/10 for me. It could be 10/10 as well, but I'm reserving that for something that will be truly special. On the other hand, if I'd be taking performance/cost into consideration, it would end at 8/10, as it is overall similar to the aforementioned Cubaney, which is about half the price of this bottle. All in all - 9/10 is a fair rating.
When I heard rum from Peru I was unsure but wow.
Its a sweet, mild rum with a medium tail, tastes a bit fruity with a mild chocolate maybe.
You can sip this with just a couple of blocks of ice and its fantastic, everyone I shared it with was super impressed.
I take this after letting it breathe about 45 minutes. It's domestic production where i live, so for about $40 a bottle it's incredible stuff. Wonderful burgundy-mahogany colour and overall presentation (box and bottle). Definitely sweet, great sipper. I've served this to friends who wouldn't even think of sipping rum and they loved it.
Its quite floral and a little sickly smelling.
"There is a lot of sweet toffee and caramel on the nose. Hint of butterscotch. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Exquisite rum boasting complex flavors of caramel, dark chocolate, and oak. Velvety smooth with a lingering finish.
