I hope the change of the ownership of Zacapa won't influence the future of this rum.Its an almost perfect rum, typical Guatemalan, not as rich as a 23yo Zacapa but the price is the half. There is no rum in the price-class of 30€ which is better then this one. Wonderful teardrop bottle, quite heavy.Dark amber color, in the nose fruity, tasty.Compared to the smooth Zacapa a little bit of a bite in the throat, but it disappears immadiately and a little explosion of aromas follow.I start to hoard this, just for case it disappears

Botran Solera 18yo starts off so well, but finishes so averagely.

A lovely nose with good fruit, oak and hints of banana, coffee and spices. A rich, warm, spicy body that finishes oh so disappointingly. Behind the nice soft burn of alcohol, there is a bitterness that I can't get my head around. It is a good rum all round save for this. Maybe I really should give it a 6½, but I suspect that this is one of those rums that if you catch it when you are in the right mood, it will be stunning, and on other days it will be disappointing.

I'm trying to like this, but coming back to drink it again I really just don't like the taste of it. The finish is horrid. I think that I might have to blend it away with something, but as I drink my rum straight up....!! Maybe a dash of OVD. As the Botran is quite dry, I am thinking to mate it with an overly sweet rum that I have ended up with to kill two birds with one stone.

There aren't many rums I dislike, but Botran is one of them. I gave the 1893 Solera a 2 thinking it might have been corked, but maybe it was just nasty.

EDIT (again). The bottle has been sitting in the back of the cupboard for months now, with me wondering what I was going to do with it. So I decided to try it. There is a softness and rich caramel notes on the palate that I didn't pick up before. The dryness is not there in such a domineering way. While I am still a little undecided, it is much more harmonious that previously had, and I am enjoying my glass. I might have caught it on a good night, so maybe I should try and knock off the rest of the bottle (its only half full!!!). ☺

un bon gout de caramel. il est très doux. très abordable. suffisamment complexe, j ai bien aimé. je le recommende mais pour 18 ans c est decevant.

Paid $33.99 for Solera 1893. As with other reviews, I did find a touch of spice with the taste that lingered for a while. I did purchase the Botran Reserva and enjoyed it, so I expected more from this one. I think the Reserva is a better value for the price.

This rum looks promising, nice colour. The taste is harsh at first and a hint of caramel at the end. It's harshness is a too bitter for my taste. I tend to like sweeter runs.

I was looking for a good bang for your buck rum to switch it up. (I noticed I was drinking my expensive ones much to fast.) So one of the gentlemen at the liquor store recommended this specific one as the others in the botran line are not very good. This one is like a more affordable version of zacapa. Not quite as robust but still manages a good smoothness. Recommended for sure.

I bought this seeking to expand my collection and based on reviews from here. It's certainly an enjoyable rum, but yet lacks the character to make it a bottle that I would buy again. I never mix aged rums, and this is certainly more than acceptable as a sipper, but there's not enough there to make it stand out

The kind of rum I like. Sweet, but not as nice as the Zacapa 23. Kind of expensive, though, for the quality.

Purchased in Duty Free when there was a promotion. Good sipping rum on the rocks. Agree with many comments about the taste.
