Bacardi Black

Tasted at Laka Lono on 1/3/22. Pours a dark reddish amber (not black). Musky aroma. Caramels. Has a nice mild toffee sweetness. Slightly leathery. This is way better than I would ever have imagined.

The nose mostly buttery/butterscotch. Sipping it, I get a big alcohol punch up front that overwhelms any of the more subtle rum flavors that it might have. It was an interesting and inexpensive bit of education that helped me understand some of the more complex rums that followed in my home tasting.

Bacardi Black has that taste of pure alcohol, despite being only 40%. While it does still keep those notes of molasses, the alcohol completely overwhelms the taste unlike any rum I've ever had before. After trying only about a dozen different rums, this is the only one I can say I genuinely do not like straight. It's drinkable, even without being drunk first, but not good.

I felt it was in the same vein as a Bacardi Gold. Perhaps a little fuller bodied. Only to be used as a mixer and not neat or over ice. I prefer to mix with Bacardi Gold before the Bacardi Black.

Goslings black seal rum is only slightly less affordable and tastes and smell 100 times better. I will make a dark n stormy for a guest who I'm not fond of with this.

This tastes like sweetened adhesive. I tried this neat at a liquor tasting and it pales in comparison to a product like Myers. It's not even close to being Bacardi's most disgusting product but it's not something you need to try.

If dark rum means having a sweet molassy taste, then this will bring it in a cocktail. Hard to describe the mix of flavors though, as despite being dark it tastes thin.

I don't like this rum, it is horrible! Even with coke it's bad!

Poor, barely drinkable garbage. Overly sweet, cloying and artificial.
