Bacardi Black rum

Bacardi Black

United States | Dark | 40% ABV

Originally named Bacardi Black, this rum is now called Bacardi Select. The recipe is the same, which consists of a blend of aged rums, charcoal-filtered once before resting for at least 4 years in American White Oak.

The 2016 version seems to be a change from blends of the same name in earlier years. The label purports this to be a blend of rums aged 1 to 3 years in heavily charred oak barrels. I'm not sure how Bacardi defines "Black", it looked pretty amber to me and only when I put it side by side with Bacardi Gold could I tell it was a little darker. Tasted straight up, there is an initial aroma of caramel, charcoal and hint of dried fruit. Smooth, sweetish but with hint medicinal after taste. Not a very strong flavour profile, and is best served with coke and lemon slice.

I say astringent. It has a really strange isopropyl taste. But it’s dark so it looks more like cough syrup. Either way it belongs in your medicine cabinet NOT your liquor cabinet.

Honestly Bacardi...what are you doing here? This company has no pride. They’ll bottle anything!

Trying to find rums that are every day negotiable and appealing enough to buy again :
Creosote (banned by US Gov for years) was used to preserve telephone poles from rotting .
Having lived close to creosote plant for years , I know Creosote .
Tar smells better and and is more palatable .
To duplicate Bacardi Black : Simply take a shot of vodka and lick the inside of your chimney flue.

Nummer 5 op onze Lama/Exploding kitten/Dobbelkoning avond. Best een lekkere bruine rum.

De 5e van de avond. Ik vind hem rokerig en daardoor minder lekker

Bacardi BLACK is a discontinued product that was quite a great value and very good for cocktails. The garbage that they now sell as Carta Negra is good only as paint thinner.

Even if they paid me i couldn't tell you anything good about it.. terrible sweet taste that leaves a negative feeling in your mouth.. not even adding coke helps this rum imo thkugh if you have a bottle, that's the best way to finish it

About 17 different but bad after-tastes. Not sure why Bacardi keeps this on the market. It's just bad.

One of my favourites for Cuba Libre. Mellow and smooth, but still not for sipping.
