This is a 10-year-old rum from the Barbados distillery Foursquare. The rum was aged in oak bourbon barrels and is bottled at 46% ABV strength.
Bottle: The bottle is very unusual with a curved neck. It is meant to mimic the leather bottles of sailors of yore.
Colour: Light Amber
Nose: Very distinctive and varied. Upon sniffing from the glass, there is a nose of ripe tropical fruit (mainly bananas), ripe sweet white wine grapes, raisins, roasted nuts, leather, oak wood and also some synthetic thinner.
Mouth: Pleasant, dry and fruity. Not sweet, but not whiskey-scratchy either. There is vanilla, roasted nuts, honey, spices (pepper, cinnamon, cloves) and a slight bitterness of wood.
Finish: Long
R.L.Seale's is an honest complex British-style rum. It is a very above standard rum for the price.

I ended up buying this because of the distillery behind it. And it did not dissapoint! It is somewhat thicker than most dry rums, full of taste and has an aftertaste that lingers in your mouth to enjoy untill you take that next great sip. Bottle will be empty before you know it. And then its back to the store buying another one of those great looking badass bottles.

This is RL Seale’s entry level rum. Not bad. Nice little burn on the throat. Not overly sweet. I added some ice and that helped a bit. Not a mixer for sure, but not one of my go to sippers.

was expecting much more from this one, after reading so many good ratings here...
the package is nice and interesting, but here we rate the liquid, not the bottle design, abv 46% is also excellent (i read ABV 46% export strength on the label),
dry rum, nose: nothing but alcohol, mouth: this rum is mute, don t speak to me,
at this ABV i was expecting a flavor explosion, nothing, finish also is nothing !
i was expecting it will be good as the (excellent) mount gay xo (same island,
rl seales costs 6 euro more so it s same price range), doorly s are also very good rum from same distillery,
it reminds me of the clement VSOP (also very dry and some more flavors) but it s worse ... really a big delusion ! where is the Bajan fruitiness ? totally absent in this rum ...
people say it s a whisky drinker rum, no way, it s hard to find a bourbon or a single malt with
lack of character like this one ...

So my nose palate isn’t very sophisticated. I definitely smell the molasses and either floral or maybe a fruit tree. I only get an alcohol smell at the end of an inhale.

Definitely love the bourbon casking and taste that immediately. Once in a blue moon I think I’ll make an Old Fashioned out of it (hell … only $25US/bottle).

I guess the brandy casking gives it a less harsh taste. Nice when it hits your lips. A little bit of afterburn in my throat, and it warms my chest up.

it’s just a good solid rum. I bought TWN out of their 5 bottles a few months back - lol.

If you drink a lot (which happens from time to time) your tongue gets the feel of the burning you get with a strong peppermint flavor (minus the mint).

I just like having it around.

Everyone should try this. This is just rum. Nothing else. No additives, flavors, sweeteners or contrived “funk”. Don’t even think about a mixer. This is rum and should be drank like rum. Nose is clean with just a hint of vanilla and almond. Not a big pungent nose. It has bite but is super smooth. Clean and vibrant on the pallet. Not sweet. One of the most balanced rums I have ever tried. Silky smooth. Medium finish that is clean and bright. Wow! Great rum. Better near but also superb on ice. It’s simplicity and purely elevate this to greatness.

For its shape and its magical contents. If the Caribbean is rum heaven then Barbados is where the rum gods live...Foursquare and this iteration in RL Seale truly defines what great rum is and should always be. The flavours are well described and quality is truly showcasing a producer at the top of their game. I have spent a lot of time getting to know and appreciate the nuances of Barbados rum over the "rest" and have to conclude that Foursquare is simply the best. I prefer this over Doorly's XO for the extra smoothness and cleaner taste. Take the time to get to know this rum and all his cousins from the magical island. Is a must on everyone's rum journey.

I have tried over 200 different rums. Some I find too sweet as they can add coloring and sugar to make it more to the taste of the casual drinker. Barbados does not allow any adulteration to the rums produced there. This is smooth and perfect for someone who enjoys the fine nuances of rum. I has wonderful favors of cane syrup, bananas, and other tropical fruits and spices. There is no harshness and remains smooth throughout the tasting. While I plan to drink this neat or with two cubes of ice, I would consider having a splash on Cointreau with ice. I have had bottles of rum costing over 5X this and their could not compare to this one. A keeper.

Nice but not the flavour profile I was hoping for.
6.5 really for me. Unlikely to buy again as expensive down under.
Round two a 7
