Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

I got a bottle of Pyrat as birthday gift. The bottle is very nice and here is where all nice ends. The smell is artificial and fruity, with strong alcohol kick. Taste is strong alcohol and unpleasant. I can't recommend this rum.
I raised my rating from 3 to 6. The reason is, I left it in glass for three hours to let it breath. It improved significantly, but there are still much better rums out there in this price range.
Prima, niet mijn smaak ...........................
Aanbevolen door Gall en Gall. Speciaal besteld. Opzich goed van smaak, maar z'n geld niet waard. Andere Rummen zijn en stuk zachter.
And I love it. A lot of orange and some cake. It reminds me of "papa au rhum". I'd love to compare it with the old Pyrat bottle! Unfortunately very hard to find for a reasonable Price.
I had it about two years in my bar, and no and not to finish it. Nice bottle, but rum below drinkable average.
Great history of Hoti. A nice bottle with a medium color. Tastes a bit sweet, although, the taste isn't that various and doesn't stay so long in a mouth. Price equals quality.
this is so sweet that it has crystal sugar on the neck of the bottle. The sugariness overpowers everything.
Ok rum for sipping, better mixed, had better in this price range
"Had wine not been the drink of choice 2,000 or so years ago, Jesus would have probably turned every drop of water on earth into Pyrat Rum XO Reserve"
"Pyrat XO rum review by Jimmy from The Drunken Pirate"
"it’s like an orange Chuck Norris came through the joint, belted out a roundhouse kick to the face..."
"Pyrat XO rum review by Lance from RumConnection"
A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This rum was recommended to me by a friend as something I might and enjoy, and he wasn't far off. While not exactly what I'm looking for, it's unique and well crafted enough to earn a place on my bar. The orange that takes center stage for so many isn't as pronounced for me. Nor do I find much vanilla. I think what many describe as vanilla, I would characterize more as honey. While sweet, this rum has a dry side. I would characterize this rum as being "bright" in taste if that makes any sense. I can see how for some people this is an ideal sipper, but not my ideal. But I would take this over a lot of other offerings. For me this is more of a mixer, especially with fruit juices. And the bottle gives a nice historic flair to any bar. Now that I've finished one, I've cleaned off the labels and using it to house some Gosling's 151.
