Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.
The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

I knew if all the people singing its praises. Never really caught on. Finally tried it. Yet another rum I'll put above that horrible Zacapa 23 (new, not original). It was so smooth. I like Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva, and had a shot of it after Plantation 20. Never expected Diplomático to feel boring. I just can't describe it any better than this way. It knocked down a peg one of my favorites and proceed yet again that the new Zacapa is a joke.
I have tasted many rums and this one is absolutely one of the best.
The taste is just right. A bit sweet and a spicy at the same time. You can taste the flavor long time after you have swolled the rum.
Only thing I'am sorry, that I only bought one bottle.

Wow... This is one nice rum!
Smokey oak an cognac nose. Light golden colour with nice legs. Powerfull long taste with a sweet and round taste.
This goes on the top shelf.
This is ma favourite rum. Very soft with taste of vanilla, maybe chocolate. And aroma is sweet.
It tastes pretty much like a coconut liqueur.
"An overly sweet saccharin note which make the rum taste artificial. ."

The big issue with this rum is it's supposed to be a combination of Barbadian rums but it tastes nothing like any other barbadian rums. Supposedly aged between 12 and 20 years, it tastes like it's been aged 3-5, the fact that there's no real age statement on the bottle but a bright gold 20! and a tiny "th" just screams trickery. It's not even that different to Plantation's 5 year Barbados offering and definitely not worth the price difference. The best thing it has going for it is the beautiful bottle. I know that Plantation's schtick is all about elevage and getting it to France and aging it there but I almost wish they had have kept it in barbados and bottled it there, particularly so they couldn't have added sugar (against the law there). For some reason it seems really watery especially considering how old it's supposed to be. It's nice and if you have friends who don't like rum they'll love this but I wouldn't buy a bottle again.
