This smelled exactly like my Mum’s Christmas cake, some serious Proust stuff going on. I’m thinking this is going to be amazing.
Unfortunately it’s got that lavender/Parma Violet/soap thing you get in whiskey.
Looking at the colour of it, it’s got to be the aging process making this so bad. I guess they age them in Scotland, which just isn’t working for me.
Personal taste though innit, the rating below mine is an 8 and my mate that’s well into whiskey loved it.
Light gold colour. The nose is woody, on the wet forest, the wood wet after the rain. The moss on the trees. It's light. Then comes the pastry notes, almond, waffle, butter. On the palate, we keep the same notes, waffle, butter. Nice length in the mouth, but it is very bitter and we do not find the woody characteristic of the Port Mourant. It's a nice version.
Nosing reveals a slight mustiness – some mushrooms and some sharp oak tones.
"The finish is good and of a more than reasonable length – nicely spiced – cardamom and a lot of spicy lemon and lime zest – marmalade giving it a slightly bitter note to the very end."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Very balanced nose, bright but not sharp like so many other continental rums.
A typical PM, first I get white oak with wood chips aroma, then honey, wax, with some fruits like prune, melon and vanilla. In the background are vegetal notes. Balanced and bright nose, not complex but tasty.
The taste starts sweet, then the rums turns very spicy and the alcohol tingels in my mouth.
Now it's clear that we have a continental PM here. I get honey, grasy notes. Because of the spice I get also citrus and the prune is tasty in the initial taste.
In the middle it became even more spicy, I get honey now, wood chips, grasy notes, then some tannins and oak, in the end some prune. It's too spicy for me now.
The finish is spicy of course. I get honey, grasy notes, prune and wood chips. Nothing new there, the finish is long because it's very spicy.
The aftertaste is not bad, I get grasy notes, prune, melon, wax and a slightly nutty note (it's the typical PM Still).
Overall, the nose is not bad, tasty, very balanced but not very complex.
The taste is too sharp, but the aromas are nice and balanced.
But because of the spice, I cant enjoy it very much. So I would rate that one with 83 points.
