Old Brigand Black Label Superior 5-Year

I was really impressed with the quality of this screw capped rum.

Tasted October 10 2023 thanks to the Forbidden Hole collection.
Appearance: light gold
Aroma: vanilla and brown sugar and perhaps maple syrup?
Flavor: this is a solid rum. Vanilla and a bit of fire.

This is a complex profile, both sweet and nutty.

You can't go wrong with this for $20 bucks. I like it better than El Dorado 12, Doorly's XO, 8 and maybe even 12. It's a nice sippable rum at a very affordable price.

Dammit! This guy can do no wrong. I thought the RLS 10 year was a bargain. This is like shoplifting.

Woody vanilla spice followed by mild sweetness that keeps a complex finish. Moderate ethanol heat.

This is a flavorful rum for the money. A little harsh for drinking straight up, but goes down nicely with a few ice cubes.

Nice flavour smooth but it is almost so light you can miss the rum. It almost needs to just be stronger in everything

Oak notes with hints of clove and cinnamon. Just a tad harsh for a sipper IMO but a decent mixer and inexpensive.

I'm a big fan of Foursquare. The put out some great products. I have a bottle of Old Brigand Black Label in my collection, mostly for mixing. I leave the sipping up to the Doorly's XO and R.L. Seale. I like this in Painkillers.

Just not a style I think I like. Harsh burn for me, lots of spice when I sipped with a bit of ice. Better with coke but kept striking me as a whiskey more than a rum.
