Slyly just a little sweet, smooth, and a nice finish. Ron Matusalem 15 is very well done.

edited to add sugar test results- 5g

Nice aroma with butterscotch and vanilla. A light golden colour with thin but suprisingly clingy, oily legs. The palate is not paticulary sweet or complex but very smooth. You get a subtle tone of vanilla, tobaco and wood. The afterburn is short and smooth.

Makes a good rum and coke if you`re using Mexican cane cola.

I was recently disappointed to find that this is flavored with prune and vanilla - and to make it worse, the original practice of using macerated prunes has been replaced by extract.

It is still a great tasting rum and a bargain at around $20, but I find it harder to consider it a serious contender to other genuine rums in the same style, such as Seales 10 year.

Edit : to reviewer Robin - you seem to give this rum a decent though not glowing review but then a rating of 1??? Did you make a mistake?

I enjoy using a pretty good rum to make my rum and coke (diet coke). This one works great, at a decent price.

On first smell it is sweet with a sherry aged profile.

On first taste, there is an instant sweetness that is quickly overtaken by an alcohol taste with nothing I can distinguish.

So I chucked a couple of blocks of ice in and let settle, this normally opens up the rum and let's in a new profile.

However this was still a strong bite, still sweet and no real profile.

Overall pretty disappointed with it for the price.

Much better rums out there for the same if not cheaper price.
