Matusalem Gran Reserva 15-year rum is produced using a combination of rums aged on average 15 years and distilled from molasses using the solera process.
The Matusalem company was established in 1872 originally in Santiago de Cuba. The company fled the country following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Gran Reserva rum is now produced in the Dominican Republic.

This is not to my liking.
Blandly innocuous.
So much better out there, after buying a bottle of this once, Iβll not be fooled again.
It's true that it is a bit thin, but as I mix it with ginger ale, I don't really mind.
I think it is decent value, I buy it to tide me over for a couple of drinks in the evening.
It's a nice rum, but I have to say I expected a bit more...
I had this several years ago on a cruise ship and not since. Harsh in the mouth, not much flavour, thin. Not a good buy for the price.
I wasn't wowed by this at all, it was pretty good. Nothing much to write about, but good for a mid range sipper.
A bit young for a 15 year old rated rum...but tasty and smooth. Great sipper.
Smooth and very well blended.
"The aftertaste is quite spicy and hot. Not in an alcohol burn way."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Its uneventful for 15 years.
15 year rum should be a smooth sipper at this age, but its not. Very harsh upfront burn which shouldn't be existent in this age of a rum. So I highly recommend drinking it with cola (I prefer diet coke). Even in coke its only So-So the last guy said "thin" and I think that is an amazing description. Some rums are bold and have distinctive flavors.Which makes sense because even sniffing the rum from the bottle you dont get any distinct smell besides some alcohol. This is similar to appleton estate v/x rum with a different cask taste. So the choice is yours go appleton estate v/x which is 17$ a fifth or this which is around 40$ a fifth with limited availability.
Cliff Notes
-Harsh upfront burn (not a great sipper)
-No real bold flavor
-Sweet Finish
-No smell from bottle (which translates into the no flavour)
-Similar to appleton estate v/x (I think appleton estate is better however)
