Tastes like a proper rum should..
It does have caramel added im sure but it goes nicely with the flavour profile , do not mix this , just sip neat or with one small icecube .. very , very nice.
Well folks, I think I finally found a Bundy which can actually got toe to toe with the South Americans and Carribeans. I'd give this a solid 8 out of 10 and would be very pleased if someone ever handed me a glass of this at a gathering of sorts.
The Solera is a dark rich rum which unlike the other Bundies out there, doesn't have that whiff of ethanol every time you open the bottle and doesn't leave you feeling vulnerable of naked flames after you breathe out after having a sip.
It has a nice draw on it, very smooth, good opening with vanilla, dark fruits and molasses. The finish isn't as complex or drawn out as hoped but sincerely, Bundy have actually done it, they have actually created a world class rum with this one.
But at the price point, boy oh boy is it heading into Australian national pride gimmick town. This would be the sort of thing you buy an older Australian gentleman for Christmas or something like that to enjoy with his nearest and dearest. Worth a try once for sure but for the money, I think I'd rather go for a Ron Zacapa XO and pocket the change.
Still hat tip to the folks at Bundaberg, you've actually made a rum which is worthy of enjoying in a glass with nothing added and will leave the sipper going "wow that's tasty".
I was really sceptical to try it as I hate Bundaberg rhums. But this is one of their top gun. And overall I was happily surprised with the taste and loved the look of the bottle. Pretty descent drop my only 2 issues: It was a little to soft on the nose and really overpriced .
Nose: 6/10
Taste: 8/10
Value: 5/10
Packaging:9/10
One if the best Bundys I have had.
It's not amazing and the flavour is hard to distinguish but you can sip it with ice and enjoy.
I get the caramel notes but that's all I can get.
The down side is the price, very expensive and when u can get an Appletons 21 year cheaper it makes it hard justify this.
I would not buy again.
First brought to add to collection but decided to drink, bad choice.
Now I have a opened bottle that I try to of load to.friends.
Considering the price tag I think.a 6 is over scored.
I'd like to give this a 6.5 to be nice, but don't have option. This is the best rum to come out of Bundaberg but given the the availability of exceptional rums from other places, it just doesn't hit the mark. I've chosen to rate this the same as Diplomatico Exclusiva Reserva and Angostura 1919. I'd pay $100 AUS for this just because it's Australian but no more considering other runs available in that price range. It needs more time on the wood to mellow. Quite honestly, I'm a unfortunately little disappointed.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
