Lately I've been consuming somewhat sweet rums. This was a complete 180 deg turn for me. A good turn no less! There is notes of tabacco, leather, slight vanilla and definitly alcohol in a good manner. With every sip I take it's a pleasure knowing I'm not paying big money for added sugar. Nice, dry and unsweetened. Some think it's overpriced. I disagree. At $60 a bottle it can hang with $100 rums and shine all the way. I give it a 9 because of how well it can hang in the C note + department. Also, I'll bet this pairs with a good cigar (preferably Cubanos) just like scotch or cognac do. Bravo H.C.
I don't know why it's so higly rated (7.4/10). I give 5,5.
Beautiful reddish mahogany in color. Oak, fruits and sweet on the nose. Wow, this one attacks with some punch of alcohol and spices on palate. Very nice indeed. Good oak, dates, maybe little raisins and fruit flavors all the long way of after taste. I usually like sweet rums, but this is quite dry, but I still like it, go figure.
Lekkere geur van vanille, eikenhout en kruiden. Mooie volle zoete smaak van vanille, eikenhout, gebrand suiker met een volle ronde afdronk die lang blijft hangen
Picked this bad boy up on my last fishing trip to Mexico and glad I did. A golden hued rum that looks and smells good in the glass. Smooth with a medley of flavors, wood, leather and Carmel. I find this rum dangerously smooth and very balanced between dry and sweet. The most pronounced aspect to me, is the aftertaste, which hangs on and begs you to pour another shot. Definitely recommended, real rating 8.5.
I have enjoyed the 7 year old for a while, and actually watching an old Conan O'Brien Show where he visits Cuba and Havana Club's distillery showcasing some rums that are not on the shelves here in Sweden, I decided to order the Club Selección de Maestros.
After two weeks it arrived. A slight bump up taste-wise. Nice bottle design.
It smells of apricot and peaches.
"Well blended and well-balanced spirit that it’s smoothness shines through. There is very little roughness or aggressive spirit tones when sipped."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Not bad at all, but just go for the 7 year old if you have the choice.
