This is bad. Smells like vodka, burns like vodka. Probably is cheap vodka with artificial color and flavor added. Bought an airline just to try, had to drown it in coke to get through it. Not pour out bad but barely drinkable.
I bought a "sampler" bottle. When poured over ice, how I like my rums, it is light and fruity. There are much better rums (e.g. Cruzan) at the same price.
This rum was a regrettable purchase for me; I thought it smelled a lot like rubbing alcohol and the burn was reminiscent of moonshine~great if it HAD been the latter, but as far as I’m concerned, unsatisfactory for a rum.
Horribly artificial tasting. Honestly, it's nasty. Definitely does not taste anything like rum. Period. Run, don't walk away!
We included this with some mid-range and higher-end rums in a blind taste test with a handful of friends. This was unanimously last on everyone’s list. Very bland with a not so nice burn. Of course, at $9 it could be a perfect addition to a grog bowl. Probably not a fair comparison.
Tonight’s Rum, reported from Camano Island WA, Largo Bay Rum This inexpensive Rum starts off weak on the nose, perhaps delicate is a better word. Vanilla and Mango comes through. The first hit on the palette is still weak, almost nutty, but yet nice. In the mouth it redeems itself with a bouquet of complex flavors, vanilla of course, almond, citrus and a hint of allspice. There is no burn in throat. The finish is a bit rougher leaving a bit of heat in the mouth. Not really bad. The lasting taste in the mouth is quite nice, earthy. I’m surprise at this Rum, but then again it’s from the Caribbean! It’s also very similar to its spiced Rum brother. I’m sorry it’s already empty. 5 out of 10.
Which is why I bought 2 50ml bottles from TW for just under $5. Largo Bay stuck a label on the bottle that says "Gold Rum" and "Charcoal filtered" I do not believe the rum part but the charcoal part I do believe because it tastes like what I can imagine charcoal tastes like. I think they confused the process and infused it with charcoal instead of filtering it with charcoal.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A gold rum with a strong caramel flavor. finishes a bit harsh but it's really not a bad rum there are just a lot of better options. This is a good rum for mixing into cocktails.
