This was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting some more burn with the very high proof and lack of an age statement but a great sipping rum for those who like high proof.
Nose not bad for overproof. I put on ice and let it breathe. Not typical gasoline as expected and can be consumed as sipper but not recommended. Had Cuba libre and definitely way to go. It doesn’t have flavor like typical plantation. Overall ok. Prefer something with flavor. If looking for no real bite and extra alcohol mixer this is your drink
Use it in swizzles as a base rum with Fee falernum. "I'll drink to that" for some recipes. Beautiful to replace Smith & Cross, with an even higher proof. Blends are difficult to analyze, but his one seems to have the right ratios. Don't sip, mix it!
Raisin, and some.... more Raisin. If you like Raisin then this may be your rum. For everyone else, just skip this one. You could buy stroh rum just as well.
5/10 (I'm not into raisin as you might have guessed)
Cognac overtones wash through to vanilla, nougat aftertastes. Amazingly smooth, a definite sipper. Worth the cost to a T.
Dark, fruty and powerful rum.
Scent: coffee, orange, plums, jams and tryffles
Strong banana note, and the sweetness is tempered by a ridiculous amount of alcohol. Not bad at all
It’s very intense, almost sickly sweet.
"It’s a sweet yet almost bitter, molasses heavy nose."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

...That overproof needed to prove something. It's nice and heavy on the Jamaican, Guyanese and Barbadian flavors: Some cane morass funk, Latin flavors in the buttery vanilla and cocoa spectrums and that sweet molasses tar candy. The high proof makes it dangerous, as this could easily be in the sipping category with a touch of demerara syrup, but that's exactly why this is a stellar mixing component. Not quite the scorch of 151-territory overproofs, but beyond the exciting 59º agricoles of Marie-Galante, OFTD has the remarkable power to respectfully elevate a tiki cocktail without overdriving the balance of flavors and alcohol if judiciously implemented.
I've been enjoying this with a mix of cachaça, agave syrup, 1/4 - 1/2 lime squeeze and seltzer on the rocks. If there were only lemons, and an amaro was around, I'd substitute that for the agave, or give this a dash of bitters.
