A sugar-free 7-year old super premium rum that is sustainably produced (Carbon Neutral & Fair Trade certified). From a 5th generation family estate, it is naturally aged without artificial ingredients, distilled 100% with renewable energy and KOSHER certified. A full-bodied rum with a long and smooth finish that lingers in the palate. Best enjoyed in a Mojito or with sparkling water or ginger ale.

Does not seem to be sweetened like so many "aged" rums, so might not appeal to fans of Zacapa and the like. Subtle flavors of smoke, tobacco, leather, dark fruits. It can often be found for under $20 at which price it is a good bargain.
While not as complex as the 12 & 18 yr, FdC 7 yr is smooth enough to drink neat. This dry rum may not suit those who prefer artificially sugared rums but for me the notes of caramel, vanilla and oak blend well enough to make this a decent sipping rum.
The first rum I tasted on it's own, and still one of my favourites. Good enough to drink straight, but you wouldn't feel bad about putting in some ice, a slice of lemon or, why not, a dash of coca cola (but only a dash). Flor de Caña always keeps its distinct molasses-taste, also in this younger brother of the family.
I first found the 7 year several years ago when I was returning from Aruba. I've since limited myself to the 18 year and mixed with the Extra Dry 4 year. I just found a bottle of this in Kentucky and I realized how much I liked it as an every day sipper. Good middle of the road sipper.
Light to medium color. Delicate honey nose, very pleasant. This is a really nice, fairly light bodies sipper. A friend gave this to me, and having had the 12 (not wildly impressed) I expected little. Needless to say I'm surprised at how pleasant it is. A nice caramel touch up front, with a short fruit finish. I actually wouldn't recommend this for mixing as its charms would be buried. Not a world calss sipper, but for the money, you can't miss.
Aged for 7 years, Flor de Cana Gran Reserve offers the option of drinking it neat or mixing it in a cocktail or with coke. With a price tag of about $20, you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for a satisfactory rum either.
Think about trying the other fine rums in the Flor de Cana family as well! You can't go wrong...CHEERS!
This is my standard rum of choice. Oddly enough, I found it mixed best with sweet tea.
Not much of a sipper but great in cocktails that call for a sugarcane-based rum.
This rum worked well in all kind of cocktails, may it be freshly pressed juice or low budget sodas. But it changed radically over time. The more air that came in to the bottle, the tastier it got. This is true for many spirits, but i have never tasted such a big change as with this bottle. It transformed from "ok" at the first three cocktails, to "perfect" at the last three. But all through this journey it was priceworthy (with being "reasonably priced" at first and at the finish being "a bargain"). Maybe this will be my "old faithful" in the bar cabinet in the future?
It smells reasonably “boozy”. You still get notes of good oak ageing.
"The finish is overall quite bitter almost like dark chocolate."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Many years ago when I first tried the Flor De Cana rums from Nicaragua, I was so impressed that I had decided to do side by side taste tests for their amber rums of age 4, 7, and 12 years. This 7-year is definitely worth only a few bucks more than the 4-year, but I could not tell the 7-year and 12-year apart at that time. All I concluded was that the 12-year was a rip off, so I rarely ever bought the 7-year again. I have always been impressed by it, but there was still that nagging thought of being duped by marketing on the extra aging.
Now that I am contributing my own rum reviews to this site, I picked up another 7-year bottle of this amber rum. It is smooth with no excessive sweetness and can be used as a budget sipper, served on the rocks, or as a mixer. Not many rums can boast credit for all three. It is basically inoffensive and well worth the fairly low price. It is not the finest sipper, but for the price, you can't beat it.
Now that I can appreciate this rum since it wound up in my top 30 list, most of this bottle still remains after several months. In the old days, the whole bottle would be gone in only a few days. It wound up in third place among my dark rum budget sippers behind El Dorado 8 and Don Q Anejo respectively. After bidding farewell to my first and final bottle of the over rated Mount Gay XO, this Flor De Cana 7 was a welcome pleasant surprise. Sad but true! This one is also much better than the over priced Flor de Cana 18.
