This is good solid pot blend rum that combined with the funk gives it that Jamaican classiness ... You can taste lovely orange peel and smooth coffee ... Good solid 8 year rum

Excellent quality for the price. This one won a family blind taste test involving more expensive rums.
Tried Appleton 12 Year Rare Casks side by side with the 8 Year Reserve. Both are of great quality! The 8 year burns and bites a little less (both are minimal in both products) and tastes good but it's definitely not as complex as the 12. That said, it's still an excellent rum! I say it's equally good but both are fairly different from each other. It's properly sweet and delicious. It reminds me of the old V/X (which I rated a 7) but it tastes more complex and somehow more smooth than the Appleton V/X. I'm not sure why the 8 Year Reserve is rated so low but regardless, I grabbed a bottle after realizing it might not be coming back for a while. I highly recommend snagging one yourself.

This rum is the perfect balance between funk, flavor, and smooth. Itโs perfect for sipping in any occasion but yet also adds a lot of โpopโ to any cocktail. You truly canโt go wrong with this rum.

A go to rum for me. Adds more smooth taste than the V/X, and has the great Appletons taste.
Found it to be quite enjoyable. Made a fantastic old fashioned. I think I'm a fan of the funk.
Love this Jamaican rum. Most Jamaican rums seem to have a somewhat similar aura - slightly sweet, full-bodied, and intense. And the color is great. This rum reminds me very much of Appleton V/X, which was discontinued several years ago. V/X had been my 'go to' rum for years. I am very happy to have Appleton 8 in my lineup. Nice job.
Surprisingly spicy on the tongue. Strong notes of black pepper and oaked heat.
"Has a lovely smooth entry which quickly heats up. The initial notes of pineapple and dark almost to ripe banana give way to spicy heat. The flavours linger and coat the taste buds with hot spice."

I tried this alongside of the Bacardi 8. Both have that hint of molasses that I like, but this one is more spicy or peppery - it has some burn. It certainly has more character than their basic offering.
Would buy again.
Edit - Bumping this up to 9 to match the current 12 year rare casks offering, as to me they are almost identical. This is a better deal, however, and is looking to become my goto for sipping rum.
I guess I like the Funky Stuff
Edit - Hell with it - this one's my personal "10" for enjoyment/value
