El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

Dle hodnoceni zde jsem cekal, ze to bude spicka. Mozna i je, ale osobne mi neprisel tak skvely. Vune koreni a trochu koure. Chut nasladla se silnym zaverem

This is not my preferred rum. It starts good with flavour but after just a second or two it gives me much to much hair on my chest. Im finding my sweet spot when it comes to rum somewhere in the middle between this and Diplomatico reserva exclusiva.

Rum dobrý, ale dost z něj cítím alkohol. V této ceně sáhnu radši po Presidente.

even though it is unnecessarily sweet. Oily, fruity, spicy.
sugar 31+ A few years later, this is undrinkably sweet.

some times you get a bottle and you remember the other bottle being better. I find the 12 better

Smells of paint thinner. Much too strong on the nose. The aroma does revela distinctive fruit flavors such as cherry, orange, and banana.

Sipping it neat was not pleasant. The initial flavor follows the same fruity notes that are in the nose, however the banana comes in strong for me throat the middle.

As this rum goes does it leaves a distinct burn that some might enjoy. I however am not a fan of this particular burn.

Much more plaetteable on the rocks.

Much better rums at this price.

Yes, I know El Dorado "doses" their rums. I'm not normally a fan of overly sweet rum, but I have a soft spot for El Dorado. For a long time, El Dorado 3 Year was the standard "mixing" rum in my cocktail cabinet. I received the 12 year as a gift a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I bought a bottle of El Dorado 15 when it was on sale and I was pleasantly surprised.

Nose: brown sugar, molasses, coffee, a bit of orange
Palate: rich (because of the dosing?), tobacco, caramel, oak, espresso, vanilla
Finish: medium length, with a nice mix of sweetness (caramel and vanilla) and bitterness (espresso and dark chocolate).

I admit I am new to the evaluation of rum but have been enjoying it since my youth. I found this rum to have a great flavor but it seemed to have a slightly bitter back taste. But would enjoy again.

A bit better than the 12, but still too sweet for me
