I picked up a bottle on a whim as it was on sale (about $15). I do like spiced rum, and absolutely prefer dark rum, so it's not a stretch that I enjoyed this one. It hits your mouth with a force, and you can taste the sweet spice, but the burn is mild. To me that's a good combination. It's easier drinking than a lot of other rums for sure. It's just kind of a one trick pony. There isn't a lot of depth to the flavor, and it might be too sweet for some. It's not a rum I'd go out of my way to try again, but you could certainly do worse. If you want a relatively inexpensive, dark, spiced rum Jonah's Curse is solid, just know what you're getting.
not bad aroma and nice dark amber color but that is where it pretty much ends. I did not try as a mixer and maybe that is my fault but neat or on the rocks this spiced rum is just way to artificial tasting for me and 47% abv is just a little over the top for me. If I want a spiced rum I'll stick with Foursquare spiced or Brinley. I am happy I only bought 2 tiny 50ml bottles to try it for a couple bucks. And I thought Bumbu was a sugar bomb! This stuff is nuclear compared to Bumbu.
This was recommended to me by two people so I gave it a try...it's a comfortable mixer (though quite sweet) and outstanding in a hot buttered rum. To me the spice is not overwhelming at all, I get a nice taste and smell of vanilla, some caramel and little else. It doesn't pretend to be sophisticated and is popular with young partiers. I'm an old man, but I killed off a bottle in a fairly short time and might even buy another. Not exceptional but decent for the "spiced rum" category, which mostly sucks.
Very affordable, smooth, strong, and an all around enjoyable spiced rum that's good for mixing or sipping.
Smooth and sweet, with a little kick.
Mixes well.
Average price.
Ok spice rum from Kentucky; price point makes you want to give it a try.
In the nipper bottle from Total Wine for $0.99 cents. Pours dark brown with golden notes on light reflection. Aroma of black pepper and makes me cough. Maple, coffee, chocolate and vanilla flavors. Burning unpleasant finish makes me think this is hotter than 80 proof. This rum is way overrated at 6.5 average. Mix in Coke if thatโs your thing.
Tasted in the Forbidden Hole August 18, 2023
Appearance: this is a dark amber rum
Aroma: vanilla, perhaps some cloves. If this was my 7th rum I might smell banana and misery.
Flavor: this rum hurts me. Tastes like cough syrup in the worst possible way. Not fun like Cheerwine. This is horrible.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Title says it all. The spice is nice, easy to mix in fruit juice or premade pina coladas. Too sweet for drinking on its own. Good choice for parties and people who aren't used to drinking.
