Nice balance of flavors and sweetness, even thought they are added/artificial. Has a decent kick at 94 proof.

Burn and sink me if this not be snickerdoodle rum! She smells like cookies, super sweet, with brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon. As taste goes, all those are on board, with cinnamon showing up more with the burn... which be mild. This rum be very smooth and easy to drink. There be a fair amount of sugar in this rum, so you may find yourself smackin' your sticky lips afterwards. This rum be cleverly named, but I believe the only "curse" Jonah got from drinkin' this was diabetes... arrgh!!!

I have been extremely reluctant to try this rum based on the polarized extreme on these reviews as well as from Total Wine reviewers. So today, I saw this bottle in Total Wine and told myself WTF, it's only $17 US and the cheapest one in my buggy. Therefore it gets rated first.

What makes this spiced rum from Kentucky different is the addition of cloves. One would also never guess that it is 94 proof. What will it do to my system the next day? I won't drink enough to find out what I am afraid will happen. On spiced rums, I have had better and I have had much worse. This one was cheap enough to take the gamble on it. I will let you decide for yourself.

For the affordable price this heavily sweet rum with thick notes of vanilla bean is very delicious as a sipping rum but so cheap you won't feel guilty for mixing it in cocktails.

Great alternative to Captain Morgan Black, Kraken, and Gosling's. Has earned a place in my usual rotation. A little hard to find. Great value and rich, complex flavor. Check it out!

If you like black spiced rum, you'll like this one. Similar to Kraken. Not as smooth as an aged rum, but great as a mixer.

Pretty good with Coca Cola. Smooth, good flavor. Nice color also, when drinking it straight.

Drinkable but mix it with something. A gift in my Christmas stocking. A nice, tiny, gift.

During my early rum kick I was buying everything under $40 haha! Luckily my favorite sipper ended up being Jonah's at a lower price than a lot of others that are only half as tasty. Rich flavor and full of aromatic notes, this rum is a pleasant surprise to most non-rum snobs out there!! Life's too short to play the pretentious game. Enjoy all the Curse you get your hands on!

First, most people don't seem to get that Black Spiced Rum ("BSR") was originated as a mixer. You were never meant to drink it neat. Thus the paint thinner feel and taste of Kraken when drunk straight. Jonahs Curse has given us a BSR that could both be a mixer and could be had neat. Still a bit harsh, but not nearly as Kraken or Captain Morgan. Captain Morgan BSR, by the way is becoming harder and harder to find.

Second, people also don't seem to get that you need to chill BSR before mixing it, or drinking it neat. Chill, chill, chill. When brought home from the store, any BSR should find a place in your freezer for at least 40 minutes before finding a home in your refrigerator.

One thing I really like about Jonahs Curse ("JC") is the caramel flavor that is sweet but not too sweet when mixed properly. It goes down in such a way that makes you want to keep your glass refilled.

As with any BSR you have to watch out. It will sneak up on you in such a way you in one moment will be able to fully understand Brexit and can easily explain to either the General Assembly of the United nations or a layperson off the street the complexities therein however suddenly (after a few glasses) will find yourself viewing english as a second language you took way back in high school and have since forgotten and have resorted to sign language and word salad as a means to communicate since neither your audience nor you seem to know what the hell you are trying to say.

Jonahs Curse, when prepared and or mixed properly makes this seem acceptable as a way of life and even guilt or embarrassment free, unlike Kraken which seems to leave you (in moments described above) feeling like Marty Feldman from 'Young Frankenstein' looking for Nurse Diesel in 'High Anxiety' to give you an adjustment. If you don't get the Mel Brooks references, pour yourself some Jonahs Curse, kick back and prepare to laugh and exclaim at what you believe is your indoor voice but is really loud enough to wake the neighbors and convince them you have found your higher calling with a robust "I get it!! I totally get it!!"

Prepared correctly, drunk responsibly, this is a great drink for anytime, any season.
