Smooth caramel and molasses aroma, sweetness and alcohol. Hints of smoky character. Sweetness upfront but dries through the middle and in the finish. Warming alcohol as well but not harsh or medicinal. Nice warmth and light fruity character as well as a bit of smoky character. Molasses and toffee. Nice medium body, warming and smooth. This is a nice surprise for an 8 year. According to some sources about 8 g/l of added sugar so nowhere near the 12 year. Nice rum flavor. Easy sipper and will be nice in cocktails. Good value in my book. If you don't like it bone dry or overly sweet this is a good choice. A solid 7+ in my book.

I really like El Dorado rums, I had the 5 years, the 12, the 15 and the 21. I also tried the spiced rum and the original dark, all of them I enjoyed, and the 21 years being my favorite and perhaps, the third best rums I experienced. My expectations were high for the 8 years, but unfortunately, it did not do it for me. I prefer the 5 years.
Not to say it is a bad rum, but there is better 8 years aged rums out there.

I've had the 21, 15, & 12, with the 21 being my favorite rum. Tried the 8 straight and just felt it was inferior to most runs I've had. For the money, I feel there are better selection in that price range. Was good mixed with coca cola.

Hmmm I would go for the 5 much better. Its okay mixed but at the price try the 5 far better. Not like their premium rums.

A complex balanced and heavy bodied flavourful mixing rum.

Very enjoyable the 15 Year Old lover's mixer.......try the 5 Year Old as a mixer if you prefer the 12 Year Old.

this has a bit too much alcohol on the throat to drink neat.... However it makes an awesome rum old fashioned. Definitely worth having an ever-present bottle on the shelf

El dorado 8 is een prima rum om puur te drinken. Een complexe smaak, banaan, tabak en fruit.

Edit:
Kon wel eens de beste El Dorado zijn. Met 'maar' 8-15 gr/L suiker.

This is the first rum that I have enjoyed sipping, slightly sweet with nice caramel taste and a smooth after taste. Too nice to add anything else.

Entry level sipper and superb in a rum cocktail. Beats all the other rums in this bracket

For the price excellent I enjoyed it on the rocks as a sipper and with coke.... For a little extra cash though might as well man up and buy the 12
