El Dorado 8-year is distilled from fermented molasses before it’s aged 8 years.

About as sweet as I can manage it. Any sweeter and it would be off my scale. Also love the 5-year old version.
Sweet molasses taste with background of wood. Good body. Evaluated neat but will likely survive ice or cola.
Lovely drink at an affordable price. Not going to compete with the expensive sippers but for £20-£25 I think you will struggle to beat it.
It tastes good. I feel the aroma of walnut. I´m already looking forward to its 12y-old brother.
Great rum. I stored it on it's side and much of it leaked out, but only because I'm an idiot.
This rum offers a value entry into el Dorado but is nothing special. It tastes like it sounds it entry level sipper at best but is too young in profile to compare to its better aged counterparts.
smooth rum but missing a lot of flavour or finish and not a ton of body
Have not tried the full lineup of ED but I like this one. Flavor is rich, similar to a Jamaican but less pungent with a subtle smoky flavor, somewhat whisky like. It's definitely a keeper.
It’s floral, there are notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits.
"It isn’t rough but it does have quite a spicy burn and finish. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I picked up a bottle of this today to add to my mixer rums, which will keep me from drinking too much of the more expensive rums in my cabinet. Again, fellow reviewers on Rum Ratings led me to a good purchase decision. I also had no idea that it could also be used as a neat sipper. It's older brother at 12 years old is only about 9 dollars more, but this one is cheap enough to not feel guilty about drinking too much and using it as a mixer. I would choose to sip it neat or on the rocks.
The aroma is like perfume and the taste is of complex spices from the southern Caribbean mixed with some vanilla. Super smooth with no bite and definitely semi-dry with only 14 gpl of added sugar.. It is really quite unique and I can now see where it's older brothers get their DNA from. What a pleasant and affordable surprise!
Update December 23, 2018: Less than a half bottle remains after 2 months and it still tastes rich and as great as the day that I first opened it. I attribute this long shelf life due to it being semi-dry and still having only a half bottle of air to oxidize it. It's older brothers could never make this claim because the flavors would change for the worse after only two months due to excessive added sugar.
