Good price point ($19) for a solid mixing silver rum. I had a few glasses on rocks and it comes off unsurprisingly piney and boozy but there are some nice oak and chocolate notes here. Would buy again in a pinch, but more importantly this seems like a decent starting point to discovery the other finery of El Dorado. ππ¬πΎ
This is a good choice for a light rum for mixing cocktails. No off flavors, tastes young but doesn't have that alcohol burn associated with some of the cheaper light rum brands. Mixes well with other rums.
I first encountered El Dorado 3 year on a trip to visit family where I was asked to make cocktails. My go to rum from this category has been Plantation 3 Star. I find this to be a decent substitute. Has a bit more of an earthy tone to it that Plantation does not. I feel like 6 really hits where this is. It is fine for mixed drinks but I would go with Plantation 3 star if a store had both.
Got this as an alternative to standard Bacardi to try something new. More harsh alcohol taste than expected but mixes well as anticipated.
($25CAD) - Got this one to make some vanilla extract but figured I'd give it a shot straight up.
Not too much going on aroma-wise; A bit of butterscotch maybe.
Taste has upfront sticky carmel with a hint of those coconut candies and some butterscotch. No depth though, as the flavour quickly fades into heat.
Not a great sipping rum but could be fun in mixed drinks.
Tasted at Laka Lono on 6/3/19. Grain aroma. Incredibly smooth and delicate. Has a lot of agricole-like notes. Good stuff for a demerara mixer.
Re-tasted on 6/30/21. Bread dough aroma. Acetyl. Butterscotch and vanilla. Mild pepper and spice mid-way. Muted sweetness finishes clean. Less impressed and move my score from a 6 to a 5.
Not the best Iβve had, but far from the worst. Made a batch of Coquito using this and it seemed to do the trick.
There are traces of that sweet fruity Demerara.
"The sip is initially quite smooth but it quickly gives way to quite a strong alcohol burn in the mouth. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I'm largely basing this rating as a comparison to other whites in the under $20.00 range - this one just does it for me. I find it outstanding in the Daiquiri - it's my top so far. I find it to have nice, buttery notes, and a light, creamy texture that ups the level of the cocktail. Nice sweetness, but not overly done, and decently smooth overall with some seriously mild alcohol burn that doesn't last. Also worth mixing with other whites to shift the flavor profiles around in your cocktails. Yes - this is a great mixing rum; I'm not rating it as a sipper (while not the best in that role, it's better than many...). I strongly recommend this one.
