Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Bought it because it seemed good value, based on its ratings and because it was measured on different websites for added sugar and it had none. Tastes good but not great. Wouldn't use it as a gift or when I have guests but perfect for a glass after a long day.
Я не понимаю откуда такой рейтинг у этого рома. Возможно мне попался контрафакт. Но это хуже чем какой-то дешманский бакарди
Dobre, dobre estrewo. Ładne aromaty. 8!

This rum is incredibly smooth for the price range. Fantastic flavor, a little less nuance that Real McCoy 12 year, but significantly less bite. This can be a sipper which is rare for a $40 dollar rum, but isn't as full as something more expensive.
Every time I enjoy this, I can hear Joy Spence with that wonderful patois accent saying, "No added shu-gah!".
What a delightful creation. One of the few I enjoy neat.
Nose - Apricot, Oak, Molasses
Palate - Spice, Vanilla, Caramel, Orange
Long, outstanding finish.
This is a standard of excellence, top to bottom.
With the manipulations of some other heralded brands, I understand why a master artist like Ms. Spence could be vexed at uninformed comparisons.
In my opinion, you don’t really age rum — it gets spoiled.
Whisky needs it, but you can over-age that too, and take out the character. I think people are only aging rum these days to appeal to Scotch drinkers who don’t know better. You end up with a bland, syruppy thing on your hands.
That said, Appleton 12-yo is pretty good, but suffers somewhat from the above defects.
As to why anyone would buy their 30-yo — some people have more money than sense!

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

Overall a very solid rum. I personally can see this making exquisitely unique high end cocktails where the rum is the star! As a neat or sipping rum I feel the 43% alcohol comes off a bit harsh and detracts from the character that I know this rum has.
