Brugal Leyenda

This was my first experience with sipping rums and so it's the one I use to measure all others. This rum is very hard to come by, but if you do it's one of the best bargains you will find. Do not leave Dominican Republic without it!

This is not a superior grade rum. Full stop. It is certainly better than other Bragal rums which I refer to AS " BRUTAL" The problem is you can get an Arbuello, 4 Square, Malecon or Worthy Park for half the price that will CRUSH this expensive mid range offering. Don't do it.

Sweet rum with a lot of burned sugar. This is a very intensive taste, but it's very unbalanced. And the spice is intensifying this disbalance.
Remains too sweet in the aftertaste, thats why I can't indicate which barrels were used.
I would prefer the Botucal / Diplomatice Reserva Exclusiva in terms of price and taste.
This rum would be much better with less sugar.

Smell: caramel, vanilla, burnt sugar, dried fruit, sherry/cherry, sweetness, some barrel.
I like this combination of flavors, you can find them in some rums, but something special is still missing.

Taste: strong sweetness, caramel, a lot of burnt sugar, raisins, some spice, remains very sweet on the palate (which indicates added sugar), very slight bitterness, some wood, chocolate, cherry
Sweet aftertaste, slow and nice burn.

Spoiled sherry smell with a hint of rum, not pleasant at all.

Rum zakoupen přímo v obchodě Brugal po prohlídce rum factory za 17 usd (!). Je to jeden z nejlepších rumu, co jsem kdy pil. Je 11-ti lety, chutove vyrazny, sladší, ale ta sladkost není protivna. Rozhodne stojí za zakoupení a doporučuji ho.

Drink it straight. This is a classy drink; all your friends will appreciate it as something of quality.

Er hat eine feine Würze verbunden mit einer angenehmen Süsse und einen recht langen Abgang.Für das junge Alter von nur 10 Jahren unglaublich,Normalerweise ist Brugal gar nicht mein Fall aber in Anbetracht des auch noch so günstigen Preises gebe ich 9 Punkte

Given to us by a friend who was born in and routinely visits the DR, this became our favorite. Sweet with vanilla and caramel and a medium draw on the pallet, and very versatile. Drink it neat or in your favorite rum mix. We can't buy this in TCI, so we get it when we get it, but it is a wonderful when we do.

Me gusta mucho este ron dulce y añejo, yo lo prefiero tomar convidado con Coca-Cola, sin embargo sabe bien con soda y un poco de limón como lo toman en República Dominicana

Brugal 1888 is one of my favorite rums. So after seeing Leyenda scores a whole point above it, I was really excited to try it. Not as easy to find, but eventually I got my hands on a bottle. Poured a glass of 1888 next to it, to compare it side by side…. and was disappointed. Leyenda seems very watery and overly sweet. Can not compare at all to 1888, which is much drier, and has completely different personality.

I do think Leyenda is heavily dosed. People who prefer rums on the sweeter side will love it. On the nose, clear notes of caramel, coffee and raisins. Not a bad smell, but also very sweet.

I’ll take 1888 over Leyenda every single time. Would be very interested in trying Leyenda with 0-5 g/L of sugar and at higher ABV.
