El Dorado 21-Year rum

El Dorado 21-Year

Guyana | Aged

El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

A fine tasting rum. Let's see if I can get this to 50 characters.

I really enjoy the 21 and the entire El Dorado collection.

Iโ€˜ve been lucky to enter the world of rum (me being a whisky aficionado) via very experienced friends. I encountered this 21 y/o after a few years of tasting and developing my palet through a variety of all sorts of indies bottlings. I only want to share my experience and this is just an opinion(!), but this is utterly disappointing and I donโ€™t understand the raving reviews. It is far to sweet to my liking, it lacks complexity and the low ABV certainly doesnโ€™t help either.

If you read my "bio" you will see I was a "sheltered pirate" for many, many years. The first time I saw or heard of El Dorado, I was at the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis and they had this "21" on the shelf! I bought a glass and immediate said, "Wow!" Thus began my El Dorado journey, which ultimately led to the "25"!.

The "21" is my go to "high-end" value sipper (at a "reasonable" price!), and has been for many years. The "25" is for "special" occasions. I ALWAYS have El Dorado 12, 15, and 21 readily available depending on my "mood"!
If you have NOT tried this, get this...you will definitely enjoy!

(Although I rated the current "25" an 8 here, IF you have the $$$$, the 25 is better than the 21; but for value, I rated the 21 higher -- make sense?)

On the nose I get oak and a little leather. On the palate it is smooth with strong baking spice notes that do not linger. Smells sweeter than it tastes. A nice sipper.

As the title says, lots of wood, almost like a scotch. After it opens up you get that usual El Dorado brown sugar with a more subtle wood

Great rum with a honeyed taste. Long smooth and complex.

Caramel, vanilla and barrel aroma, smoked cocoa in the taste, scent of caramel, sherry finish

This is the smoothest and most enjoyable sipping rum I have ever had the pleasure to taste. Maybe that means I haven't sipped enough yet. That is why I gave it a 9. I friend said they were sure it was not a rum spirit it was so smooth. I will definitely have to get another bottle as I finished the first one!

Rich and smooth with a woody influenced finish. Lots of vanilla and Demerara notes.
