Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

I do like sweet rums, and this one is like a spicy brown sugar rum happiness. It’s woodsy with some oak. Relatively heavy weight - not syrup but in that direction. Short slightly sour finish isn’t the best but Ok. Not overly complex but easy sipper. Would be great for someone just getting started on rum.

I enjoyed this rum, its just that I was shocked at how much sugar was added to this. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Seale, but for something like Guyana rum, I want that strong navy punch with rich syrup flavour, and although there is a smooth sugary taste, I'm not sure if its the rum or the dosage. All in all, good price for a 12 year old, but there are better Demerara Rums out there, and worth the extra dollars for less dosage and more ABV.

Surprisingly sweet taste, not so complex, beautiful color, great rum for beginners.

Note: I'm a sipper. My opinion is based on sipping characteristics.

Would have given it an 8 a couple years back but having tried stuff that really blew me away in the meantime, I just can't. Don't get me wrong however, this is a real nice sipper. One of the cornerstones of rum drinking, so to speak. So it's a mandatory experience.

So, I finally purchased this instead of my go to 15yr old seeing quite few reviews rave about this. After trying several glasses of this in my opinion it just isn't quite there. It needs the extra 3yrs of aging that makes the 15yr old stand out. The price was right at $30 but I will be back to the 15yr old immediately for the extra $15. You get what you pay for!

Strong Oak. Not a sweet Kindergartener sipping rum (which I enjoy). Great dark sugar Demerara flavor. Can't wait to try 15+++

It's very intelligent on the nose, well balanced on palate. Best for me at this moment

Very smooth, with great notes, but boy it's sweet. For me definitely too much. If someone likes things that sweet, definitely should try.

This is my favourite of El Dorado's offerings. I have had a bottle of the 21 more recently but found it nice but not as interesting. The 12 has notes of cinnamon, banana and other spices that blend very nicely together. It could come across as strongly flavoured and not as refined, but I think it has definite character.
