Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Let's start by saying that I am a real fan of Demerara Rums. The bottle presentation and the tie-in to the "City of Gold" only enhanced my desire to try this rum.

It is a nice dark amber pour in the glass. The nose is subdued with no over powering alcohol.

What hits the mouth is a fairly simple rum, however give it a few seconds and the flavor palette expands noticeably. This rum is smooth so there is very little alcohol burn post swallow, however the tastes linger on for a significant period.

I normally take my drinks neat, however I also sample new rums both on ice and with cola. Usually I feel that either option is at best neutral and seldom an improvement, provided that I am testing decent rum.

Personally, I would leave the ice out of ED12, however I find it to be quite enjoyable with Coke.

This is a very reasonable price point rum given that it is a bona fide sipper plus you won't cringe when your visitors add Coke. In fact you may well add Coke yourself some days.

Excellent rum to have in your cabinet as an all rounder

A good rum. Good enough to have straight, not too pricey either.

That this line of rums are so popular; because they're extraordinarily good. A great demerara rum only bettered by it's older siblings. A rum that is a 'must have at all times' rum.
