Good rum with strong alcohol taste. Some notes of coffee, caramel, vanilla, honey. Great body and long finish. First navy rum before the Overproof & the 15y from Pusser's. Interresting to start with navy rum.
I think this is a really good rum. Strong alcohol taste and a good bench mark to evaluate any rum by.
Strong but lots of flavor. In fact, a simple ROM which can be drunk by all.
Spicy and strong rum but equally well balanced and tasty. Great for mixing, baking and sipping. Didn't lose it's qualities with the new packaging, label and name.
Good for a strong rum taste in a cocktail or punch. Comfortable heat. Good body. Similar to real British Royal Navy rum, but really, it could never hold a candle to it.
Like the 40% version but stronger. amzon sells it for below 20€, so it's a sipper but also reasonable for cocktails, which demand a real rum taste.
Molasses and toffee notes with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Gingery finish.
Not bad straight but not something I could have more than a couple of in a night. Not a lot of burn considering the high alcohol % but it does leave a lasting very warm sensation in your stomach afterwards.
It is fruity, hints of smokiness.
"It’s not sickly and overly spiced like some navy rums. There is a real complexity about this rum with a lot of flavour. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The aroma is very full and vibrant with soaked raisins, dark chocolate mousse, sweet pipe tobacco, cinnamon and flambeed banana. It's hard not to like that composition.
The taste is not surprisingly a bit "explosive" given the 54,5% vol. but it doesn't seem completely out of control. An intense flurry of toffee, nutmeg, ginger, honey, black tea and oak washes over the tongue but I don't feel mistreated by the strong spirit. The tingling spices linger for a good while, eventually leaving me with a warm feeling in the chest and the subtle taste of rum soaked raisins.
I'm starting to think that quite a few of the cheaper overproof rum are really good value, because you get so much taste compared to the majority of rum in this pricrange. Another great example of overproof, ridiculous value is smith n' cross.
