This is powerful stuff. This Rum is strong from nose to mouth to throat. Yet I actually like its potency. It has a unique taste that incorporates a pain and pleasure effect like a good hot sauce . I drank this neat and I will say it did its job. It is not great but very good and a must taste if you enjoy Navy style Rums . It’s Gunpowder monicker is absolutely on point.
I tried this for the first time today (after previously having tried the standard 'Pusser's British Navy Rum'. I can honestly say this was excellent - Rich and spicy with flavors of spices, molasses and caramel - easy over ice or with a mixer.
This rum has a very harsh flavour. Not for everybody.
A little too unrefined as a sipping rum. Aftertaste left on palate.
Sec long et puissant. Bon rapport qualité prix à moins de 40€ en france.
I have a bottle of the 15 yr old and the British Navy and while the 15 yr old wins hands down this is a nice addition. Great for mixing or a sipper. side by side sipping all 3 is nice to get the differences in each.
Recently I've become a big fan of Pusser's. I love these dry, full-flavored rums.
I tasted this one side-by-side with the "old" 109-proof offering. I liked this Gunpowder, but I liked the "old 109" better. It had similar flavors, with a much more intense nose, and hints of sherry, with a longer finish. So, I'm not sure, exactly what changed, but I do hope the consider changing back sometime :)
That said, this bottle is fantastic—both for mixing as well as sipping (it's not as high-proof or unapproachable as the marketing might lead you to believe). Highly recommended, but I'm not sure it's enough to sway me away from the lower-proof (but still full-flavored) blue label.

As ex Royal Navy this rum holds almost a mythical status. This is the only rum to comisurate Black Tot day, the original Nelson's blood.
It is fruity, hints of smokiness.
"It’s not sickly and overly spiced like some navy rums. There is a real complexity about this rum with a lot of flavour. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The taste is same as you would expect, strong and intensive. You feel the alcoholic bite right from the beginning; whole sip of the full-bodied rum is followed by caramel, toffee and sugar. But it is different that you are used from other sweet rums, the 109 proof reminds you that you are drinking strong navy rum and not a Cuban elixir. Its finish is warm and long as you could expect, but it is surprisingly smooth. I believe this is interesting experience to taste such a good quality strong navy rum - one that you can really enjoy.
