A food rum for sipping. Wouldn't mix it in anything. Some ice is the only thing that would go with a rum like this. Basically treat it like a whiskey. Not bad for the price.

Very sweet and tasty rum without annoying smell of alcohol. From my point of view this one is very suitable as a gift, because of its non agressive taste, nice aroma and representative bottle. Very good choice as an invitation to the world of rums for beginners. Just try it and make your own opinion.
I can definitely see why people call this a rum liquor. It's very sweet and because of all that sugar most people probably find it easier to sip. Myself included. I see a lot of people count that as a strike against this rum but I can't say I mind much.
In addition to the sweetness there is a decent amount of character in this rum. Not a ton of barrel spice but strong vanilla up front. The nose is a bit ethanol. The taste to me is basic rum, or my idea of rum. The sweetness essentially feels like a rum cocktail just in the bottle. If you're a cocktail fan like myself, this is kind of a great option on the go.
I would also be fine suggesting this to someone new to trying a rum neat as it is not intimidating. If people are opposed to sugar then definitely avoid this rum.
Update: After having more no sugar added rums like The Real McCoy 12 I've bumped this down to a 7.
"The palate evokes chocolate sauce and the sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose"
"The nose is dominated by notes of caramel, toffee and crème. On the back end of the aromas, I can detect a hint of smoke and pineapple"

Smells sweet. It is fruity, oranges, grapes and raisins with scents of chocolate and a sweet almost syrupy.
"The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. ."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

For people who like sweet rums, this one should be a winner! The Diplomatico Réserva Exclusiva is a very sweet aged rum from Venezuela, which brings out his fruit and spiced notes without being strong at all in the throat.
