Have to be honest, based on the heritage of this and the reviews I've read all raving about it, I was rather underwhelmed by this rum. It's not bad, it's not great, it just..."is". Nothing really special, completely unoffensive, and tastes decent enough, much like you'd expect a sweet rum to taste. It just didn't wow me with the plethora of notes and flavours that people claim to experience (or repeat after reading other reviews) but it's all pretty subjective anyway.

If, like me, you needed to try this to see what the fuss was about, you may end up disappointed. However, if you are specifically looking for something that's neutral, easy to drink neat, without much burn, and is on the sweeter, more caramel-side of things, this could just be the go-to rum for you.

At over £40 at the time of purchase, it represents poor value for money. Even at the lower £35 sale prices it goes for at the time of writing, it's still too much. I think if this were around the £20 mark, it would have scored a 6 from me just for being better value.

Although I also drank Seleccion de Familia, which has a better rating, I stay with this classic. Less alcoholic, more aromatic and less spicy. Seleccion de Familia would be a 9...

Good rum, but too sweet for me. Vanilla, caramel, smooth with a long aftertaste.

I know this one is pretty divisive from what I've seen from the reviews, but if you enjoy sweeter rums, this is a great choice. If you don't, you may not like this one. At $35 to $40 dollars though, I feel like it's worth the shot if you're looking to try out a new sipping rum.

I was going to put this as a 9 originally due to how easy it is to drink, but I recently had El Dorado 15 year and it has taken the place this one used to hold. Still one of my favorites though. 8.5/10

While it's not as great as some of the top notch rums, this rum is great even for night outs or to enjoy it with friends. Great price / value ratio

Un classique. Une bonne façon de débuter une histoire avec le rum.
