On the nose:
At first strong marmalade, then ethanol mixed with a bit of smoke, faint fruit notes of perhaps banana, apricots and other citrus fruits.
On the palate:
Even stronger marmalade, strong ethanol burn first on the tongue then lingering on the top of the mouth going into the nose, tailing off with a burn on the tongue and lips.
Personal:
Absolutely love it, but it definitely is not for everyone.
Originally, I bought this for my other half, as I knew she likes her cinnamon rums. So naturally getting ginger beer to mix with it was the right choice. For myself, it is a nice rum, but damn it does do a slight gut punch for myself.
I give it a 6 personally, but overall if you like your cinnamon rums, or ginger beer, this one is for you.
Not the best, a little disappointing. Too much spice going on in the palette, not a good flavour
Slips under the radar as Scotland isnโt much known for rum, but if you donโt like whiskey, then this is definitely worth trying. Very spicy flavour and smell, nice and smooth to sip.
Right, its important to say I'm Scottish so a bit biased. That being said Dark Matter is unique. And unique in a good way. Yes, its spicy with tones of liquorice, ginger and coriander but its bloody good. Don't be scared folks, give it a whirl whilst listening to some of The specials and you'll be fine.
Very unusual spiced super spiced tastes like Christmas cinnamon cloves very strong tasting
for a rum with a trendy label i thought it would be gimmicky. Although not a go getter rum it was almost there. The taste is good not hard hitting, little bit alcoholic tasting but not bad, not worth 90 dollars
Made up in Aberdeenshire, this was recommended by a colleague since it made the shelf in Tesco. Distinctive flavour that has to be tried. Bit of a love it hate it marmite thing I expect. I love it!
Excellent with a good quality ginger beer.
The spicing is authentic and smells very real not at all artificial.
"The rum is very Spicy. Despite the added sugar it isnโt a cloying drink when served neat. The finish is slightly bitter and the throat is left with a black pepper burn rather than an alcohol burn. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Harsh, heavily spiced rum, but you can't get past the overwhelming clove taste which for me just overpowers the whole drink. Definitely a winter warmer. Just about bearable as a rum and coke, however seriously better balanced alternatives are out there at the price point.
