You can order this at a good bar and sip on it. It does the job. It has a nice presentation of toffee and woody flavors. Unfortunately it is simply far too dry to be considered in the top echelons of rum sipping goodness. This this more like Tennessee whiskey labeled as rum. It’s by no means a bad choice, but there are better rums in the category for the price.
A bit pricier than other more complex rums or those with dimension. Good in general, but not great. Not a ton of dimension and a tad bit drier for an aged option, but works well neat or with a single cube of ice. Glad i tried it, but it is not on the go to list. ymmv
Rum is my favorite drink, I basically only drink Rum, and I have tasted most of the available ones found in my country, from straight sippers (my first choice) to "ethanol" based cocktail cheapos. Being on a low income I relay on offers to get the good stuff, and Brugal 1888 Gran Reserve, either on offer or not is to my taste one of the best ever. Definitley not comparable to Guyana Plantation, or the high end Cubaney or Zacapas, but unbeatable for its price. Even if traditionalists think Im nuts, I love to drink it with a squeeze of lime, and during hot summer days even an ice cube.
Over all I give it an 8 out 10. It goes down like water with a very short afterburn and you feel the alchool kicking in after just a couple of drinks. I highly recommend not getting drunk thou, as it can be a strong and unpleasant experience, but two to three drinks will be more than enough making you feel just right.
A great product.
Ok, nothing more nothing less. Nose: light chocolate, sugar and banana. Palate : smooth thin taste of chocolate and exotic fruits. Not to sweet though.
Okay in my opinion depending of what sort of taste you prefer, this could feel a little bit strong.
Very mature and classy rum. Hints of banana with leather greet you and iced it smoothly goes down with no burn. Very happy to have discovered this rum.
Nice dark colour , very astringent nose , smells like Airfix glue ? Still quite strong after 10 minutes in the glass. Fortunately its better than it smells , dry with a bit of a bite , can definitely taste caramel. A very smooth finish with very little burn. Quite a nice sipper but very good with cola , it seems to help bring more flavours out.
Is de beste brugal die ik heb gedronken .heel zachte na smaak deze mag zeker niet ontbreken in mijn collectie 👍👍👍👍. Een aanrader
rarely find a sipping rum that i rate under 7. and most people seem ok with this one. but the taste at star and finish don't do it for me or the guys at tasting night. just sayin'.
Brugal 1888 is Nice and smooth rum .
Complex, with the right balance between dry and sweet.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I wasn't sure what to expect after opening the bottle and taking a sniff. It was unlike most rums that I've had. I could sense it's dryness and oak aromas and was curious as to how they would come across. Once poured and sampled. I tried this 3 different ways. Neat, chilled with a touch of water, old fashioned. I liked all three ways. The rum by itself is not overwhelming or harsh in any way. The oak cuts the sweetness without leaving it too dry. The mouthfeel reminds me of what roasting a marshmallow over an open flame smells like, except in liquid form. Very engaging, very impressed!
