Average sweetness and some harshness. Smokey taste, some ripe fruit/banana at the end, some liquorice.
I bought this rum on the recommendation of a liquor store employee and I was actually quite disappointment.
The taste is quite sharp, a bit woody, and not smooth enough to thoroughly enjoy straight. I don't see enough value to excuse paying a third more for this over your traditional mixing rums.
A friend of mine recommended Mount Gay rum to me in general, i tend to prefer the rums of Barbados so i thought i was on to a winner having enjoyed the likes of Doorley's and Cockspur rums i have tried recently.
Unfortunately this rum is not for me, it came across with an overbearing presence of the flavours i am not overly keen on, such as pepper Bourbon,Cinnamon ,it had a rough and overly charred taste with a strong post alcohol burn, tried it with some Ginger ale, this tamed it quiet a bit, but just made it a bit 'meh' overall, i can see this bottle lasting a long time as it will be towards the back of the queue.
No nic moc. Jeste ze to nebyla moje lahev :)
Za ty penize lze poridit daleko lepsi rum...
Rum je dost ostrý a alkoholový.
Wooden taste, very dry. May be good for those, who like whisky.
I had intended to by the XO on my last trip to the States, but couldn't find it, so I settled for the Black Barrel statement. What a disappointment. None of the sophistication of the XO. Why even make such an inferior edition when the price difference is but a few measly dollars? The only good thing I can say is that upon opening it was more like a '2', but after a couple of weeks it calmed down a little and I could actually almost enjoy a shot of it. But I highly recommend spending the few extra bucks to get the XO.
Dieser ist definitiv kein Top Rum und wenn ein Top Rum eine 9-10Punkte bekommt, kriegt dieser von mir 3-4Punkte.
the simple fact about this rum is i get no taste no burn and no smell. i dob't even think that one could use this rum as a mixer simply because i could not pick up anything at all, i was pretty disapointed.
The XO is amazing, this is below par. Easy to forget, not to repeat.
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I drank it in a whisky glass so not great. The smell is not great and it smell like a cheap mixing rum. Once you drink it it reacts like a bourbon. long taste but not complex at All. Just the taste of caramel lasting. The Finish is the part I don't like. Very plain. Only the caramel/ honey traste but no complexity
