Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year rum

Real McCoy Single Blended 5-Year

Barbados | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

The Real McCoy is a blend of rum produced from the distillation of blackstrap molasses, using a combination of both column and pot stills. The rum is aged for 5 years in Kentucky bourbon barrels, then blended with Bajan spring water.

The Real McCoy rum's heritage is based on the story of Bill McCoy, the pioneer rum runner of the prohibition era. McCoy fueled the Roaring Twenties by delivering over 2 million bottles by sea to New York speakeasies. He became well known for always delivering undiluted alcohol, unlike other rum runners who cut the liquor with prune juice, wood alcohol, or even turpentine, That is why he and his product became known as "The Real McCoy."

Ce rhum ne dégage pas beaucoup de goût et de complexité. Il est très doux et pour moi fini avec en rhum and coke. Il n est pas mauvais mais pas wow.

Attended a tasting seminar for The Real McCoy at Cardiff Rum Festival on the weekend. Was incredibly well presented telling us of the provenance of the name being of Bill McCoy and rum running schooners.

This is smoky oaky rum that is a perfect pairing partner for cocktails of all types I wouldn't personally drink this as a sipper but it's a decent rum there are better sippers out there for the price

This review maybe influenced by the fact that the Vegas selection of rum is appalling ... Even in the mirage at a place called the rhumabar it's pretty standard selection
.. however back to the rum .. decent no's e on it of a dry rum that has hints of smokiness but not too overpowering ..

This is one of two 5 year bottles I keep on the shelf, the second is from plantation. Both are relatively cheap but are quality enough to sip on or easy enough to mix with.

Smells of butterscotch with some woody notes. Goes down smooth with a sweet flavour. No complaints. A bit expensive for a five year but its a better rum than most.

Nothing overly spectacular. Just a very solid, aged blend. Great price point. Great for mixing, okay for sipping.

With a nice blend of vanilla, honey and caramel all coming from bourbon barrels, this rum is just plain delicious. This is the standard whenever you need a good, aged rum

($52CAD) My first endeavour into the Foursquare Distillery that I’ve read so much about. Hard to find their stuff up here so I was glad to see this and the 12 year.
Smells sweeter than I would’ve thought, initially anyways. Taste is just a tad sweet but mostly oak. The warmth comes in and the finish with more oak. It’s a clean flavour, nothing unwanted or harsh, just a good clean rum. Feels like a great platform for the 12 to develop some more complexities. I’m hoping this is the case as the 12 is a good $20 more a bottle.
Either way, good first impression of the Distillery. Great bottle for those that want a good clean rum.

Just cracked open the RM5 tonight to sip. Has some sweetness to it. I could see this being used as a mixer some times. It isn't as sweet as the Bumbu that I had the other night. Does have a little bite but not much. Anxious to try the 12...

A good, inexpensive($27 for750mL) aged rum. Sweet caramel and oak flavors with just a little heat.
