A bit of a strong flavour to drink neat for me, strong alcohol, not too sweet, bitterness.
Has enough character to come through with any mixer, I prefer it with pineapple juice or in a painkiller.
I wouldnt buy regularly, maybe once a year for a change.

Purchased - yes. Price - Β£22.00 UK. Aroma - good. Taste - really nice but wow, strong at 57%. Very molasses tasting. Bottle - changed from above picture.....now short stumpy bottle and the 100 logo has gone.
Impressive. Would I purchase again....yes. Mainly a sipper, but a lot will need to mix this as it is powerful.

Well, that's the rum you take with you in a hip flask to the north pole. Or you pour it into your tea to not to freeze when there is -30 degrees Celsius. Strong molasses and sweetness, in balance with the ABV, all this almost hides its fiery nature, but your stomach will tell you it is not such a good idea to drink this neat. Unforgettable weapon of mass destruction.

Nose: Toffee, cinnamon, cloves and pepper spice on the nose with thick caramel notes.

Palate: Muscovado sugar, soft toffee and just a hint of the spice detected on the nose. This is very smooth, belying its hefty abv.

Finish: Surprisingly short but thick and syrupy toffee notes abound.

Overall: A rich, dark rum with a high abv that retains its smoothness. Would work well in a dark and stormy, despite the fact Wood's is distilled in Guyana, and not Bermuda.

Current bottling, 2017:
57% ABV (the original "100 proof"). Big nose of molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla. Very sharp. Drinkable neat, but very sweet. This would be great in eggnog. 6+, 7-

1960s bottling:
Semi-sweet chocolate chip nose. Some high notes but no ethanol. Smooth yet slightly prickly palate. Has an old/musty element. Very nice. 7, 7+ for rarity?

Super dark to the eye, same for the palate: very significant dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, you can almost feel the molasses. As for 57% it is quite sweet, but at least for me, not in a bad way. Holds very good in long cocktails like Dark and Stormy, although watch out for the strength.

It's a big heavy rum which gets a point on pure nostalgia.

This dark rum is how I believed all rum tasted before I found out that.it doesn't.
It is that traditional strong taste of the rum rationed daily to seamen of the Royal Navy for centuries.
I still like it and do buy myself the occasional bottle of this sweet coal juice.

This takes me back every time I take another sip, I spent my younger years drinking this and didn't return to regular rum drinking until about 15 years ago a lovely drink which got me into a lot of messy situations 🀣🀣🀣

When it comes to dark rums full of treacle, toffee, fudge flavours. It tastes great straight, with notes of oak amongst the rich, thick flavours. Mixes well with cola, lemonade, or in a grog. This kinda rum is fantastic to cook with too, whether its for ice cream, cakes, butter cream etc. Just remember that this is at full navy strength which is 56%, underestimate that and you will be flat on your ass.

*Update*
After having a bottle (new bottle) I am sure the recipe is still the same, but I was able to get a side by side comparison with Skipper, OVD, and Goslings and I would now rate these rums ins this order (Skipper, Goslings BS, OVD, Woods, Lambs, in that order<) Wood's goes well with cola and lime, but nowhere near as well with ginger or even straight.
