Nowadays I find Whalers at Trader Joes for a good price. Nice dark body, decent flavor for sipping straight or mixing.
My other experience with rum this darkbis Gosling's, I would pick which ever is cheaper at the time. Both are nice.
Another nice dark rum for mixing
Your average dark rum for the bar. Not the best, not the worst. It's fine for drinks that require ginger beer.
This is another rum I use with ginger beer. It's dark and smooth enough to offset the light and crispy taste of the ginger beer and create the perfect afternoon delight!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Unlike someone else, I didn't detect a noticeable sweet fragrance from the bottle but more a subtle sweet odor. It does have a sweet flavor to it with an unexpected complexity to it. This could make for a nice sipping rum if you like the sweet ones. IMHO one of the better dark rums for mixing. Works well in Coke Zero. [NOTE: Used 3oz in a 16.9oz Coke Zero mixed together in a cup and it is outstanding!]
