($40CAD) Nice to see a new Agricole on the block!
Smells of grass and carmel, with a little hint of oak.
Quite grassy on the tongue with a surprisingly long buttery finish given the shorter aging (18 months). It’s not bad when you want an Agricole, but needs more excitement. I imagine the “old rhums” of Saint James is where I should be looking.
I always felt this was a run-of-the-mill rum. Safe. No worries. It works but its ultimately boring. But over the years, it became a rum that I would end up messing with. I'd spice it with vanilla pod, Szechuan pepper and gulah merah and it would end up being very drinkable.
I was given the bottle as a gift . Glad I never paid for it . Tried it with different mixers but definitely not for me
Traveling in Belgium with friends and supermarket had very limited selection so for 22 euros I took a chance. This rum has more of an alcohol smell than any other rum I have tried. The taste is harsh and very dry. Very little flavor. I was burned when I paid for it and burned again as I drank it. This is a mixer at best.
Non sono un amante degli agricole e pure il Saint James non me li ha fatti rivalutare. Detto ciò si tratta di un rum onesto e senza troppe pretese.
Very good for Ti Punch, if you are looking for quality at a fair price. Taste bends towards Bourbon, which is typical of how an agricole rhum of this kind should taste like.
I noticed from reading this review thread that there are more than two versions of the Saint James Ambre Gold, even the one pictured on top is a 45% Abv.
My bottle, bought in Israel, was the 40% Abv. version. very competitively priced, but not widely available here. it was my first gold agricole experience so i have to be fair and admit it's a different nature to those who are used to sip molasses based gold rums. it is a quality distillation, goes down neatly, with strong tasting reminder of sugar cane. in the good sense, perhaps 40% is bit too low as it tends to show too much of it's oaky barrel nature and the fact of not being too mature. it is somewhere in the way, but not there yet and i understand Saint James have many more matured versions in their portfolio so this one is balanced to serve it's price niche. 7/10 mostly for purity.
Maybe not one you will come back to time and time again but this rum has its merits with caramel tones
Exhibits fresh grassy notes.
"It is pretty spicy it isn’t particularly harsh but it isn’t what you would term as smooth."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Alkohol: 45 %
Původ: Martinik
Aroma: Velmi intenzívní aroma, plné kůže, pepře a s náznakem hrubé brandy. Kůže mi přijde dominantní, pak jsem zachytil i šeřík a kořenitost. (86 b)
Body: 84
Shrnutí: Slabinou je vlastně jen ten dozvuk, jinak by to byl dost dobrý a levný rum (při nákupu ve Francii).
