I make vanilla extracts, and have tried dozens of rums, vodkas and bourbons. The very best hands down is the Sergeants White, which I now get by the case to do volumes of single origin vanillas from around the world.
Also this rum is the base for a Rum Fig ice cream (vanilla custard, dried figs from my trees, soaked in rum for 16 hours with a splash more to rebalance just as the ice cream comes together). It's our most requested flavor and Sergeants makes it!
Very good fresh mojitos, and other Caribbean / tropical cocktails. Great story about how Sergeant Classic came to be and be named. Highly recommend it!
The aroma is sweet, I detect a honey-like bouquet that actually lingers after drawing it in. A caramel is there as well (Always a great addition when cola mixing I have found). The first taste is very, very smooth. My tongue gets a complex sweetness all at once. The sugar (no molasses) lingers in the mouth but is not cloying or heavy - very light. The "buzz" as I call it is very minimal when I sipped - not much alcohol buzz on contact, more instant flavor. The flavor expand and you can pick out a hint of marshmallow? The taste settles into a clean, cool mouth with a dab of caramel on my tongue. While this would be a wonderful mixer - do not pass up its stand-alone taste!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I was in need of a silver rum for some mixed drinks and decided I needed to upgrade from Bacardi. When I found this rum and saw the score here on RumRatings I figured I had to try it.
Smells to me like a jar of molasses with a crispness like petrichor. It makes sense since it is made from molasses and unaged. Where Bacardi is nearly tasteless to me, this is faintly sweet, slightly bitter and surprisingly balanced with a nice warm burn.
Still not sure it's an appropriate substitute for cocktails that call for Bacardi Superior since it has more character, but it's hard to complain when a rum isn't tasteless.
