Pyrat XO Rum is produced from nine different Caribbean rums that are blended and then aged up to 15 years in used American sweet oak barrels.
The squat Pyrat XO rum bottle shape is inspired by the typical design of rum bottles kept by pirates and ship captains in the 19th century.

It pains me to give this rum a 5 rating, but I would rarely drink it again. This was my favorite rum 15 years ago before they sold to Padron. The old seeded glass bottles I collected, but the current day product is heavily scented and taste of orange like a bit of Padron Citronge mixed in. Will not buy again only with drink at bar if other options Bacardi white or Captain Morgan. Not that there’s anything wrong with those two but mixing only.
Nice bottle,
First taste was ok..
But second was like any other cheaper bottle
This is one of the first rums I had that was not typical Bacardi. I like the sweetness and the orange spice. Its a little hot but is still drinkable, but it shines in a rum and coke. This is not a smooth sipper but it will get you by in a pinch
More a liqueur than a rum, the super-sweet Pyrat is good for some mixing but not straight.
I was looking forward to tasting Pyrat XO, but probably it is not for me - strong orange flavour and nothing else. Maybe for some mixed drinks, maybe interesting for the first time, but not for sipping unadulterated every evening.
I just can’t seem to like this one it almost has a spice flavour and I can’t stand spiced rims.
very strong orange taste and alcohol taste. Smell is great. If you like orange taste you must have it.
Yep Orangey, quite liked it but yeah had others that are better.
My go to Appleton 12yo
Bought it out of sheer curiosity after reading the reviews here. It's a half-decent rum but don't give any credit to comment saying it suddenly becomes good after aeration. It tastes like an $25 rum with after the cork has rotted in the bottle. The strong cork taste is not a delightful one and when combined with the strong alcohol hit, you're left wondering if it's even good in a cocktail. Gonna be keeping this in my fridge along with a bottle of coke so I have some half-decent Cuba Libres when I have guests and don't want to serve a $10 rum.
"Had wine not been the drink of choice 2,000 or so years ago, Jesus would have probably turned every drop of water on earth into Pyrat Rum XO Reserve"

"it’s like an orange Chuck Norris came through the joint, belted out a roundhouse kick to the face..."

A very definite hit of oranges.
"The orange taste is very much at the forefront and the burn leaves behind a bitter tang of orange peel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Well first pyrat is not 15 year rum. Its a blend that is made partly of 15 year rum but the majority of it its 5 year. If you been in this game a while that shouldnt be of any surprise judging its color and price (25$ for 15 year rum? Yeah right!). Its got a great look to it. I bought this bottle when I was very young (and underage shhh) and just came to the states so my bottles number is like 12,000. Anyway The product screams orange, orange ribbon orange tinted rum, orange label orange, orange, orange. Popping the cork off and smelling it you get a blast of... ORANGES to the point it smells like an orange liqueur, some very faint cask smell in there. In the glass it smells almost like orange flavored bubble gum with some alcohol hint in the back. Drinking it straight isn't too bad its smooth on entry then has a harsh exit. The thing about drinking it straight its flavor of orange is so powerful it overloads your taste buds and senses. Which is why I would avoid drinking this straight. I know there is such thing as a bold rum (like pussers) but this way oversteps it's visit to obnoxious. In diet coke its actually really good. You get the oak cask, orange flavor + vanilla and sweetness of the sugar cane. I would say its very good for mixing but for rum its so so.
