Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

I think it is a great value. It has a great taste for the money and I am a fan of Mount Gay. I think they do an outstanding job and produce a good product.
Mount Gay Eclipse has a rum aroma, with notes of rum as you drink it, with a warm, cherry-like, rum finish. Okay, you can tell I'm new to drinking, but I love rum, and I love this one. I pour it in an espresso cup with an ice cube and drink this delicious adult beverage after dinner. The name makes me giggle too.
Nice and cheap and love the taste. My casual drinking rum.
a very easy to drink rum, smooth flavour, nice with ice or coke and a slice of lime.
Yes, 40. Something my mom found from when my parents went to Curacao in the mid 1970's. No hint of oak but there was a sweet but slick feel that dried out nice on the finish. Quite enjoyable.
Your review – you could include things like color, aroma, body, taste, finish, spice, smoothness… really anything you want! You can also share an optional picture of the drink (or better still - you enjoying it!) by attaching a photo below.
Want a nice gold rum for your collection and/or to shake some nice coktails? Get this one. Really smooth and as sweet as it should, you ll love using it. Tasting it neat, you can feel the alcohol a lot but that doesn't appear once you mix it with couple ingredients. Try it in a mai tai and you ll be surprised how good it blends.
Smooth and very soft, honey, peaches, apricot and mango. Fruity and little bit alcoholic, rum of good quality for golden rum.
As the title would suggest this is my baseline for all rums. This was the first rum I found when I switched from drinking spiced rum to non-spiced. It has what I feel are subtle notes and nothing extravagant jumps out at you. I would recommend this rum to anyone who is new to rum drinking and should be a staple in anyone's liquor cabinet.

Quite sickly sweet smell.
"When sipped the rum does not exhibit much of these sickly sweet flavours. It’s just very heavy on the alcohol. ."

Light body, good taste both warm and chilled. Not a bad option for under $20.
