Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

My bottle is labeled 12 year rare casks.
Great taste and not too sweet. Bought this to make Mai Tais, but could see myself sipping this regularly.
This is really not my style, harsh, no balance, poor character. Forget it.
The Appleton 12-year is a good sipping rum, but could use some more filtering. It has very alcoholic aromas, and while there is some good oakeyness in the flavour it is also very sharp and raw, which is accentuated by the almost complete lack of sweetness. A bit more sugar would actually make this a much better rum!
Lon time lover of this one can't count how often I've had it, sweet but not too sweet, great neat or with a mixer (for me either a good spicy ginger beer pref. or coke/pepsi)
The yard stick.
I’m new to the tasting game.. that being said, I’ve tasted a few, and this one is good. There is surely a hit of orange.. I think vanilla is more prominent. Its about as smooth as any, but pretty flavorful.
Had the chance to visit the Appleton’s distillery and sample several of their offerings. I enjoyed the 12, very smooth, and yet the flavor profile is closer to your typical mixer. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t wait in line for seconds.
I didn't detect much spice in it, just a lot of dryness.
I also don't understand why a 12 year old rum is packed without a proper cork.
This bottle gut that cheap plastic twist cap.
Not my cup of tea.. erm.. rum.
Appleton's is a good rum, Appleton 12 year is a great rum. Really balanced and smooth. Gee can't wait to try a bottle of 21 year!!

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

As I've been trying to expand by rum drinking palette from the usual sweeter rums I thought I'd give this a try because of the famous Appleton name and the affordable price point. I have to say that it has been definitely a tough one for my to crack since it has a much harsher aftertaste than what I'm used to. And even though the more I've had it I've started to appreciate its offering I still can't say that I've completely been warmed over by it. That said, I'm not going to give up on trying to expand my palette so I think I might have to go up to the 21 year old since from what I've read that's a little easier and not quite as harsh.
