Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Lots of spice on the nose, along with honey and maybe some floral/heather notes? Almost reminiscent of a light highland scotch. Surprisingly sharp on entry to the tongue for a 40% ABV, but mellows out to lots of sweetness and some bitter burnt sugar notes and dried fruit. Finish is fairly dry but surprisingly long, with some further development of the late entering flavors. A good entry point for rums worth enjoying on their own neat.

Easy sipper but a bit boring to be honest. Its ok but no my taste at all, flat and boring. I will not buy this again.

Quite nice and well balanced. Some sweetness, a little vanilla oak.

good rum for the price, not so sweet and lush as my favourite, but still very enjoyable

I felt burning sensation and did not enjoy this bottle. Good mixer though.

It's not one of the cheapest entry level rums and whilst I bought a bottle at reduced price, I expected a bit more from this. I do like the rather pronounced fruit notes but it's a bit too spicy for my liking and would have preferred a smoother flavour. I'll happily finish the bottle but won't be buying another.

Tried to sip it - too sharp, with an alcoholic taste, being a young one. Complex aromas are hidden under this sharpness and only a matter of fantasy. Might be the best mixer in the world though. Itโ€™s reassuring to know its age corresponds to the label. The cork broke in my hands though, when trying to open itโ€ฆ not nice.

A drinkable rum, a bit bland but fairly balanced. Maybe a tad overpriced at 30โ‚ฌ, but it's a nice bottle and it's viable to approach rums. It's also dosed, but within reason.
Regrettably, this is not demerara. Go fetch some hamilton for that.

Had it some time ago so won't do tasting notes, but it mostly tasted like brown sugar (the regular kind, not the fancy hipster stuff like moscovado) with some vanilla and oak. More or less what you'd expect dosed aged rum to taste like.
