Gold of Mauritius. 5 Solera.
The bottle: Round at the bottom and square at the top. Neat.
Glass: . Dark tone in the glass that shifts in little dark red. Smells of hazelnut.
Mouth: Mild and balances well in the mouth but still lacking some flavor.
Aftertaste: A light taste of oak barrel will arrive when swallowing. After that the hazelnut taste arrivies. However, it is a fairly short finish.
Summary: It smells absolutely wonderful but it¨s taste is a not that on that standard. A very good rum given that it does not have such a long barrel time.
Provades i Rombaren på Stockholm beer and whisky. Söt, len lite choklad. Kryddig. Bra
It is not often you are surpriesed, this time I am. Round and body with nuts and plum. Good value!
I initially mostly smelled ethanol and didn't expect a great taste from a 5-year old Rum. I was wrong! Intense and smooth taste for a 5-year old. Sweet (but not overly sweet (compared to a Ron Zacapa 23 or Plantation XO)) with a nice nutty hazelnut aroma. Definitely worth a buy.
Let's have another rum from Mauritius today : Gold of Mauritius 5 year solera from the Litchquor Distillery. I couldn't find out for sure if this is a rum made from molasse or fresh pressed sugar cane, like it's usual in Mauritius. 40 % should be inside.
Nose : when you open the bottle, someone sings you the banana song. This is really the first time for me that a rum pumps such intensive ripe banana notes in my nose. Additional with a mixture from vanilla and light nail polish remover. Interesting and not bad. And very special
Palate : the banana notes receiving your mouth now. Sweet vanilla. Some undefined spices. Interesting different.
Finish : short to middle. Only a little sweetness, more spices and some hints of coffee.
Conclusion : this rum is an interesting alternative to other rums. Not really great, but good drinkable. If you like banana :-). And on top in great looking bottle.
But .... I found out, that there is about 30 gr sugar per liter in this rum and just 32 % alcohol. What a pity. With less sugar I would give him a 7 to 8. One point less for the added sugar and the wrong declaration. So a good 6 from me.
Neutral, perhaps fruity on nose.
Amazing taste. Nothing compares to this rum out of my 24⁰ sorts. It absolutely authentic and exotic. Absolutely smooth - dried prunes, dates, coconut, ripe banana on palate. It kicks a bit with ethanol - right into the target! Aftertaste feels spicy, still exotic, medium long and a bit watery.
One more rum from Mauritius did not disappoint. Minus one point because it's not 54°
This rum comes in a nice and orginal bottle which looks nice on a shelf. Whe in glass, I get spice and vanilla aromas. When tasted, it presents woody, leathery and caramel not. It is smooth but not too smooth and not too sweet. It has nice warm aftertaste. Great for sipping during those long winter evenings. If you like whisky, you will likethis rum also.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
