Dominican Republic | Gold | 40% ABV

Brugal Anejo rum is a blend of rums aged 3 to 5 years in used American white Oak barrels that previously held whiskey and bourbon.

The rum is produced in the Dominican Republic by Brugal & Co., a company that was founded in the late 1800s by the Spaniard Andrés Brugal Montaner. Today, the Brugal rum company remains largely in the control of Montaner's direct descendants.

Smells like oak without the taste. Tastes sweet but bitter also. Good enough to come back to. The price is cheap enough.

Found a sample at a local Spanish store (they had a lot of samples, what a great store). Brugal añejo is a light rum from Dominicana, bottled at 40 %ABV. The bottle design is a bit trashy but it makes it more authentic in my eyes.

The nose is not too complex, composed mostly of light and sweet aromas. One can immediately catch notes of molasses, caramel and vanilla. After some time, the aroma of orange zest appears, which becomes the main olfactory topic. Sadly, the clear presence of ethanol notes makes the aroma vodka-like and unpleasant in general.

First sensations in the mouth are much like tasting vodka, with sharp ethanol at the first stage. Then the sweetness appears, trying to make up for the unpleasant mouthfeel. Molasses and burnt sugar are the most attention-drawing, with oaky dryness in the background. Syrupy thick sweetness remains in the mouth for a while.

Despite disappointing aroma and flavor, this rum offers a pretty cool aftertaste with orange zest and burnt sugar.

I believe much has been added to turn neutral alcohol into rum in this case, however the resulting mixture lacks complexity and coherence. It has somee nice traits but it's too close to vodka to be enjoyable.

Pas très original mais caractéristique d'un rhum dominicain

Although this rum is easy to drink, it just needs more. It is definitely on the cheaper side.

A bit harsh, not too complex but for its price that's ok.

I'm quite familiar with this rum.
This is my first choice when it comes to all mixers. Great when paired with a sprite. The taste is quite harsh and woody, the finish is short. Not for solo drinking.

My first rating, not bad at all! Tones of vanilla, gentle with a nice bite, I like it, lovely with coke also!

Nice rum; smooth and a bit smokey. Not really my taste but certainly a decent product.

Trochę czuję zawód tym rumem, jest płaski, jednowymiarowy, prosty, ot do koktajli jedynie.

D.R. Rum just isn't my cup of tea. You'd think after growing sugar cane since 1516 you would think they would have figured it out.
